A bunch of updates and random things - I'm just going to pile all these into one post!

Magnetic Slide Top Box

An oldie but a goodie!  The Slide Top Box is an older model, a square-ish box with, as the name suggests, a sliding lid that runs on a groove inside the box lip.  I had a request to update that design to use 6x3mm magnets to keep the box closed, and here we are!  The lid now sports a nook into which a magnet may be glued, and the box body itself now has a matching magnet spot at the centre of the back.

Cube Tree Torture Test

I was staring at a wireframe cube one day, and wondered how things would end up if half-way up each side things branched into three more struts, each half the length of the original, and then kept on branching at each successive half way point.  So, I coded that up in OpenSCAD, and learned very quickly that that algorithm will approximate a Sierpinski triangle at the top!  From a top-view perspective we're just starting in the middle and branching outwards at 120 degrees each time, which turns out to be one method of forming that figure.

So, I rendered that as a printable form with 3mm struts, and a height of 100mm.  And then as 2mm, and 1mm.  The three initial struts keep getting more and more weight added on top of them, so the thinner the struts the more likely they are to bend or break, and the entire thing is also poised on a small point in the centre, just waiting to topple over.

My printing results were mixed, to say the least!  The 3mm version isn't too tricky but it's a retraction-fest, with stringing a distinct possibility.  At 2mm, though, the flexing of the main struts started to become a real issue, especially since the three branches don't touch until the very top.  I don't spend a huge amount of time fine-tuning my print settings, though!  So, yes, good luck with 1mm!

Crochet Yarn Bowl

The knit bowl had a crochet hook option, but the larger yarn bowl did not!  That's now been addressed, so you can keep your crocheting yarn in a more appropriately adorned receptacle!

Simpler Coaster and Caddy

I use these every day!  I'm not sure how long printed coasters will last under an onslaught of drips and grime, but they do make me happy in their bright oranges and yellows.  There's a reason why the name of this is "Simpler" coaster: I originally created a vastly more detailed and more complicated design out of some misplaced sense of adventure, but it was a terrible idea from a functional point of view.  So, I made this simpler, quicker-to-print version.  And then decided it needed a caddy that could hold four of them.

Aeropress Filter Caddy

It's a box for coffee filters!  Specifically, small Aeropress paper filters, though it could really hold anything that'll fit into the 64mm diameter space.  The top of the caddy is intended for easy access, while the lower part holds refills.  There's an abundance of room in that refill box, mostly because it serves to lift the top part higher.  There are spaces for good old 6x3mm magnets, but those are strictly optional as there are guiding elements on each side to keep things aligned and together.

Nice V2 with a purge bucket and nozzle brush :). What hot end do you run?

Well spotted on the brush! Currently a dragon (regular) but I have a Rapido UHF sitting here that’ll be going on at some point! 😁

Those coaster colors are super cute 🥰 I can’t wait to make some!

Would it be possible to have the crochet hook lid modified to have the hook screw in like the knitting needles?

Thank you.
