Hi, wonderful people!

This vase is made for your shiniest filaments!  Let the light glint off those sweeping lines and shiny surfaces and reflect in dazzling glory off the diamonds that protrude from inset pockets along the circumference!

I am loving vase mode at the moment!  Specifically, designing ways to have insets and apparent overhangs, which you normally can't have in such a print since we're eternally bound to the rule that the profile must be drawn as one continuous perimeter line!  So, no pockets allowed, even if the angles would otherwise be okay.

Those diamond-shaped pockets expand flare larger as they go inwards, which only works because of those lines that sweep through them, giving the extruder an escape path by which to form the inner pocket and still return to the outside profile as well.

Meanwhile, those upper swirly lines add rigidity and sturdiness (okay, they're really there just to look fancy...)

Printing Tips

This is a vase mode print, so set your slicer accordingly!  (That's "spiralize outer contour" mode if you're using Cura)

As you'd expect, the vase prints right-way-up, like so:

Dimensions

This is a vase mode model, so it'll scale up to whatever your printer can handle!  By default it's 90mm tall, and about 68mm in diameter, but the one in the pictures has been scaled up to 170mm tall instead!

Further Thoughts

Vase mode prods at my brain in much the same way that designing for support-free printing does, but with a whole different set of constraints.  It's like designing for overhangs, but in both directions (and with a rather arbitrary requirement to maintain that continuous profile the whole way through!)

Let the shiny printing commence!

The filament in those photos is Polyalchemy Elixir Potion Purple, which is about as shiny as it gets!
