Hey there, wonderful people!

Did I ever mention that I love threads and bolts and connectors?!  This thing is basically a box that's pretending to be a bolt.  Or a bolt that's pretending to be a box.  Or a jigsaw, or something...

Anyway!  Whatever it is, it's a storage vessel that is formed from four interlocking compartments that together form a threaded body over which a ring can be fastened to hold them together, and onto which a lid can be screwed.

Really, I just love these sorts of mechanical forms, and this thing evolved from just experimenting with splitting up a threaded body for fun :)

Printing Tips

This is an assembly rather than a print-in-place design, and so much more tolerant to print issues.  The tolerances between parts is 0.5mm as usual, though, which should be more than generous for fitting things together.

No supports are required, and print orientation of the parts is like so:

Which quadrant is which?

This is particularly relevant if you're trying for a particular colour combination!  The parts are labeled A, B, C, and D, and they fit together like this:

Further Thoughts

There's something really cool about using mechanical components as design features and the visual basis of a design, rather than hiding them away.  Hmm, imagine if those internal parts were twisted, rather than just chopped straight down... that could be even cooler... hmm, that might have to happen!

You know that I will love this one.

Like this one a lot. Printed it without the lid (so far) and finding it more useful as a divided storage cup for storing pliers, tweezers, and some other misc. tools that I keep by my printer. Awesome design that holds more than you'd expect.
