Paul is going into full panic mode. Having his dad's eyes on him is definitely putting him in a spiral. Especially with what his dad said to him. Now he's seeing things that aren't there and jumping to conclusions because his insecurities are getting the better of him.

This is where I'd drop the fact that, no, "that poodle" wasn't visiting him, it was a business trip and they didn't know they were in the same area until just now. So, yes, very much overreacting. All the secrecy and pressure are not good for a healthy relationship.
