I've been torn on what kind of game project I'd want to create and what kind of games ya'll would prefer. Imagining a game like SFRPG, if you HAD to choose between these extremes: which would you prefer?

Linear Storyline -

An RPG with plenty of elements of customization but, ultimately a clear linear storyline (even if there are branching paths). Something more like a traditional RPG or, at its most ambitious, something like Baldur's Gate III. This allows for deeper storytelling, character writing and general world-development.

The 'con' to a linear storyline is that it would inevitably limit the freedoms you have to play out your own scenarios. Certain events/concepts would be locked behind storyline beats. For example, if there was one specific moment you wanted to get to, you might have to slog through several plotlines you're less interested in to get to it.

Kink Sandbox -

No real story, instead the game is an open world filled with various scenarios and tools to play out kink fantasies over and over again in. There's no 'goal' per-se and no 'ending' to work towards. Just a world where you start small and get huge by any means you want.  The game would be more focused on exploration and writing your own narrative.

Naturally the 'con' is a fairly static-feeling world and no big storyline to discover.

If you got questions or need elaboration let me know. I wrote this up spur-of-the-moment so I may not be clear.

Kestrel

I'm definitely on team linear storyline, in part because I think sidequests can essentially provide the sort of flexibility a sandbox would.

Metasine

With kinky games, I usually prefer sandbox, so that I can pick and choose the parts I like. Being forced into a linear story full of the parts you don't care about just so you can get to the parts you DO care about can be frustrating.
