Ember, oh Ember. What to make of you. I've always felt a bit conflicted over Spyro's version of Amy Rose. Ridiculous, considering she's an unimportant, forgotten npc with maybe 3 lines of dialogue. It's all thanks to the fandom that she's so popular.

Back in the day, I was a bit annoyed with the overly feminine, flowery design. But trends have shifted. And now it seems like the only way to write/design a female character is by just turning them into a man with tits. A crude way of describing it, sure. But I feel it hits the mark. I hate this new trend much more than I ever did the useless pink cotton ball girls. It seems like I've warmed up to Ember out of sheer defiance.

Anyway, a new generation of spyro fans showed up. And with them, new Ember fans. And boy oh boy, are they an annoying lot.

Back in the early days of PL, I made her a vapid, greedy Princess. Because I didn't really like the character or the overused rivalry with Cynder the fandom would repeat over and over without a hint of original ideas of their own. Then later, as my disposition towards the character changed, I added a few sympathetic notes by making Ember self-aware about her personality flaws and giving her a misguided sense of martyrdom.

But now what will become of her? Pure Light is reaching its end and Ember's arc has not yet been concluded. The last thing I want to do is make her fans happy. But not at the cost of the story. Decisions, decisions.

Guess we'll find out eventually. I still have to write it, after all.
