I think even if Karli isn't a great written antagonist, she still serves a purpose. He may not be your favorite, but Sam is showing his ideals, which is a key part of Captain America. So Karli serves to me as a window looking into how Sam sees the world. And he definitely isn't wrong. Zemo is a massive extremist as well as Karli is. Power isn't what corrupts people. People corrupt people. We let ourselves fall into the high that comes with having power, and we lose our humanity. Not all of them are like that. Steve is living proof. Sam is too, showing that he doesn't even want the serum. That power doesn't interest him. Also John Walker is proof as well of that. He isn't even an evil guy, he's a veteran soldier who has seen and done fucked up shit. Thats not his fault, as the government picked him thinking he'd be a good choice. Like huh? Cap was never about being the best soldier. It's about being a good man. So slowly its kind of showing us Sam is a true good candidate for filling Steve's shoes. Definitely more than John Walker. John Walker is one of my favorite parts of the show, but still thats a crazy way to earn your guys' respect 😅 murder. Hell yeah 🙌 Of course these guys are terrorists and because they don't have much interesting arcs, it's hard to feel much sympathy. Like Thanos was worse than a terrorist, but you felt for him cause they made his character interesting and his argument valid. I think Karli does have good points, but its hard to acknowledge that when it's not being sold by a good character. Yeah John killing someone in public? There's no way he won't be in hot water for that, even if he literally is doing what he knows. He's a soldier, not a peacekeeper so it's really not on him, but yeah. Government and politics 🙄

I’ve never seen a character so universally hate and disrespected as john walker. But In the same breath the way his character is able to win most if not all the mcu is incredible. He is one of my favorite characters introduced in phase 4.
