Behold, the final rough—okay, "rough," as this image is srsly far too detailed for this particular Work Stage—for the excessively ambitious double-page spread of pages 2 & 3 from fantasy test project The Chaste and the Chained:

Drew this "rough" in the PC version of Clip Studio Paint via the ol' Wacom Cintiq, before embarking on attempts to print out this Work Stage on DC-issue comic art board as a lead-in to my potential "hybrid workflow" art approach.

At present I'm cranking away at a detailed, H-lead underdrawing on the Bristol board before starting in with a final stage of an Empowered-style mix of pencils and inks; this is a tremendous waste of time and an absolute process dead end, needless to say. My plan is to eventually translate roughs like this into printed-out blue lines on Bristol, but I'm having great difficulty getting my new printer to output pages at the precise sizes I'm looking for.

Meanwhile, after leaving the Elf Mage's Shirow-esque, quite literally magical  underwear undefined in the rough, I spent a few hours on the ol' iPad working up some CSP refinements of said undies:

At the end of the sketch set, I stumbled across that "leaf motif" adding white-line "veins" to the outer edges of the clothing, then subsequently reworked the designs exploring that surprisingly fruitful artistic flourish a bit further:

Note that the Elf's outfit is spellwoven "magecloth," meaning that her clothing can not only morph as she wills but is also magically clingy, for an effect quite similar if not functionally identical to the morphing "smartcloth" uniforms from the latter days of my version of The Dirty Pair.

Next up are early, analog-pencil roughs for pages 4 & 5 of this opening scene:

Page 5's rough was a bit tighter:

I found that first draft's placement of the cult leader's word balloon in panel 1 was (far) less than ideal, so I revised the panel accordingly:

Anyhoo, there's your latest update on The Chaste and the Chained, dear Patrons! Next, you can expect to see the opening spread's laborious underdrawing on full-sized DC art board (which feels gigantic, BTW) as well as the final-draft pencils and inks. Wheeeee! *sobs bitterly*

NEXT TIME ON THIS HERE PATREON: No idea, TBH, but something should be coming up in the next M/W/F slot. Let's find out together, shall we?

"Roughs"? Yeah, that's super detailed for a 'rough'. Wow. The upper center Elf Unides design marked with a 'Nahh' actually looks pretty chain-like. Kind of fitting, really.

That's a good point re: the chain-like armband; might have to reconsider that.
