Due mainly to freelance work, I have no g-d buffer of Patreon posts currently scheduled, so here's a trio of Vintage Con Sketches I grabbed out of a dwindling binder of photocopies and scanned hastily this morning.

Yes, it's Mai from the fighting game Fatal Fury, sporting one of the more extreme eye-design riffs I was toying with back in the summer of 2000. Yay! Note that the stylized depiction of her already skinny waist is exaggerated even further by that one bit of her top (or "top") that's wrapping around her lower back and tucking into her obi sash.

And it's Mai again, this time with a "twisty downshot" pose, drawn on the same linen-finish cardstock board that I used for this era of con sketches.

Finally:

...a somewhat generic commission of a "strong girl lifting a boulder," with a pose and clothing that appears to be photoreferenced. Early life drawing ahoy!

On an "art detail" tip, note that this set of sketches denotes the dividing line between my older means of depicting noses, as seen on the 2000 Mai sketches with the "long line and single nostril" approach, and the newer take of "minimal nasal indication" (of two wee nostrils) on the Strong Girl, which I'd just switched over to circa 2001. (Someday I'll have to work up an explanation of why I had to resort to this abrupt break in my facial-depiction style... but not today, folks.)

NEXT TIME ON THIS HERE PATREON: Not sure at the moment due to the aforementioned lack of a post buffer, but something should be going up on Friday, okay? And now, back to scripting a 7-page story I'm working on for Marvel. Wheeeee!

Awesome Mai's and that strong girl with a bolder gives me Caitlin Fairchild vibes. Cool art.

Those are some very striking eyes in the first pic, indeed.
