Behold, the initial Work Stages for a just-completed pin-up illo I'm doing as a contribution to an artbook for Gisele Lagace's popular webcomic Menage a 3 (if you'll pardon the missing accent mark over "a"). Yeahp, those are supposed to be my takes on DiDi (as superheroine "Invincibelle"), Gary and Zii; keep these images to yourselves, kind Patrons, as I didn't ask for clearance before posting 'em here.

The initial rough was drawn in Clip Studio Paint...

...but the rest was drawn on Bristol board. (Marvel art board, in fact!)

Note also that I accidentally scanned the illo's color guide in B&W (oops), but tacked it onto the image gallery b/c I thought it looked interesting:

Even though the final inks weren't stunningly complicated, I carefully monitored my worktime on 'em via stopwatch and found that stage alone took me a bit over six hours to complete.  Ouch! If I'm gonna be doing many more cover-type illos along these lines (which I hope to be doing fairly soon, as I need to rustle up some income tout de frickin' suite), clearly I'm gonna need to speed up my work approach.

Anyhoo, when I get the final colors back in a few weeks, I'll post that as part of a complete Work Stages set, okay?

NEXT TIME ON THIS HERE PATREON: Not quite sure at the moment, but as I'm rolling with every-weekday posts to finish off the month of April, you can rest assured that something will be going up tomorrow.

Oh awesome, I've backed that particular Kickstarter already, now I'm *really* looking forward to it! Don't worry, mums the word 🤫🤐

Nope, nope, nope. That's Caitlin saving Roxy and a fictionalized, young Adam Warren. ;-) It's been a few years since I kept up with Menage a 3, but I'm glad to see it's alive and well. Nice work!

Hey, if you need to "rustle up some income", lemme know if you decide to open commissions, OK? I've been resorting to buying moon rocks in order to waste money, and I'd much rather give it to you.

The rough was in clip studio- why switch to board after that, I am curious? I mean, CSP can do it all, so curious why your process drove you back to pen and ink.

OftenSane

I thought I recognized them. What am awesome concept for those characters. Fantastic!

Alas, I'm nowhere near having a viable CSP technique for finished artwork as yet. Need to upload and try out a whole bunch of new brushes, as none of the CSP defaults are working for me as "finishing tools."

andrew

Same. While I suspect the Adam Warren commission rate is (justifiably) beyond my immediate reach, I'd put away my pennies to save up if that option ever opened up.

My creative partner Dee Fish swears by Lando Calbrushian for most of her linework in CS, and Leaky Larry for big rough textures. Also, all of the Photoshop brushes are importable to CSP, if there is something there you like.

DiDi looking pretty jacked in this one. I think Zi is into it, though. A shame the actual comic never gave us the implied promise of the title.
