Here are the final inks and initial rough (and, UPDATE, color guides) for my character-packed cover for Empowered Deluxe vol.2, which compiled regular Empowered volumes 4-6 along with a whole lotta bonus material in a limited-edition hardcover collection.

UPDATE 2: Tacked on a side-by-side comparative jpeg I worked up for Twitter. Enjoy?

<Cutting and pasting from an earlier Deluxe Edition post:>

In retrospect, I'm not at all sure that the "limited-edition" aspect of Empowered Deluxe was helpful at all, as pretty much every reader I've ever spoken to about this matter (and I ask this of every congoer who brings me a Deluxe hardcover to sign) just shrugged indifferently about the fact that the hardcovers were "one-offs." Did that make any difference to you folks?

AFAIK Dark Horse has no interest in reprinting the Deluxe hardcovers and their extensive bonus material, but in theory I might consider doing a Kickstarter for 'em down the road. (Well, in theory.)

Anyhoo, I have enough iterations of the cover's coloring stages on hand for a second Work Stages post later in the month, okay?

TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: Stand by for something entirely new, folks! (Er, I think.)

I enjoy seeing the colour notes a lot, as it's something that inevitably comes up in an almost entirely black and white media. You wouldn't believe how many people I've heard be surprised that Sistah Spooky is black until it was established with dialogue. (Like, the 'Sistah' didn't do it for you?!)

TBH, I never heard of the Deluxe editions until well after they were out and sold out entirely. I kind of wish I had heard of them, but then I'd have balanced it against already having the full run of original paperbacks. I _do_ hate that I missed the bonus material, though. A Kickstarter for a Bonus Roll-up would be something I'd go for.

Sabrina Pandora

I'd be interested in that Kickstarter!

I personally would have bought the Deluxe Editions whether they were limited or not. Need that bonus material.

An indiegogo/kickstarter would be interesting but for how heavy those Deluxe editions are, shipping costs might bite you badly on a first outing. I'd suggest doing something less ambitious first as a way to test how big the audience is and solve any potential problems that come with crowdfunding and fulfillment.

Beginner question, what's the purpose of the red vs blue pencils? Is it different kinds of shading?

adamwarren

That's just because I happen to have those two colors of pencils kicking around, allowing me to differentiate some of the various hues indicated on the guides.

I have all the paperbacks and the hardcovers. A new collection of bonus material or sketches will always be welcome. Trimming a sketchbook down a bit allows using USPS priority envelopes with a sheet of corrugated cardboard for shipping.

Gods, you're color guides are so amazing. I'll echo a bit of what was said above, maybe a reprint of just the bonus material (would be cheaper/easier)? I'll back anything you post though!
