Behold, a pair of 2010 con sketches based on photos of Empowered cosplay! First off is a high-contrast inked piece:

...which was based on excellent Ninjette cosplay from cosplayer Gren, as seen on deviantART (no link handy, alas):

In fact, I've used her cosplay as Ninjette reference throughout the series. Very handy!

The piece above was based on cosplayer R!ddle's likewise badass Emp cosplay:

This cosplay also had an influence on actual Empowered, as I incorporated the high heels from R!ddle's costume into Emp's faux suit when cosplaying as herself(!) for a part-time job.

Note, howeva, that the fictional cosplay was latex-based as opposed to the Spandex/ Lycra material seen above. For the record, I have a long rant prepared covering how much I hate realistically rendering stretch fabric (due to its annoying, pebbly texture and sausage-like flattening of body contours) and how "actual" superhero costumes wouldn't be Spandex-based, but that's a subject for another post.

The final sketch of this group isn't photoref-based, but is cosplay-adjacent:

Not that this finishes off all the con sketches lurking in my Empowered vol.7 folder; next time, we'll probably move on to the 2012-ish pieces hiding in the vol.8 folder. Yay!

NEXT MONDAY ON THIS HERE PATREON: More life drawings, as usual!

Some great art here. Also, nice rendering on the C3PO (or the more formal See-Threepio) cosplay !!

In my own superhero universe, I simply established that "actually looks good in spandex and not like multicolored sausage" is a very common minor superpower. A side effect of how all powers are a sort of wish fulfillment magic. :)

awesome and amazing cosplay of our fave ninja ^___

So if I'd commissioned that last piece I would have been damn impressed! Great art and the character personality to go with it.
