A few more Vintage Con Sketches of the Dirty Pair in distress for y'all!

A few words:

The dastardly lass distressing Kei and Yuri in the 2002 piece above is the freaky-looking, Yasushi-Nirasawa-armed character "Ng Mui" from 1995's Dirty Pair: Fatal But Not Serious (though I don't think her name appeared during her brief appearance). She was the shady techy person who grew the miniseries' Yuri clone for Kevin J. Sleet, if you can't remember.

Note, BTW, that while Kei and Yuri are sporting the chara designs and costumes seen in the one-shot Start the Violence! and miniseries Run from the Future, in the out-of-continuity "DP DiD Commissionverse" they sport high heels instead of the clunky boots or tabi-like footwear of the in-continuity projects, because sexy.

I'm pretty sure the original commissioner didn't actually request octopi distressing the Angels, but danged if he didn't get 'em! By this point I was no doubt flailing around desperately for a different approach to DP DiD than the usual to keep myself semi-interested as an artist, hence the octopi.

IIRC, the commissioner wanted Yuri "laid low," and laid low she was in this 1999-ish con sketch, which seems a bit harsher (or sadder) than the goofy-ass norm for these pieces. (Then again, the Ng Mui piece was pretty darn harsh, too.) The layout was probably ripped from an often-seen pose in Chaykin's American Flagg!, though I'm not 100% sure about that.

In a shocking rarity, the commissioner sent me a scan of the piece's initial rough; I've saved almost none of the first-draft sketches for these illos.

Yeahp, Yuri was looking up at the camera in the original rough. Not sure if I spiked that element because A) that struck me as a bit too skeevy, or B) I just couldn't pull off drawing her eyes in the final illo.

Dang, I'm burning through old DiD material at an unsustainable if not insane rate, folks; I can tell you that I'm certainly not producing 3+ new pieces per day (or even weekly), to put it mildly. Hope you folks are enjoying the veritable firehose of content, as someday that flow of artwork's gonna have to drop off a fair bit.

I'm probably going to make one of the month's Distressed Damsels posts exclusive to the $10 & $20 tiers, in a wan attempt to reward those kind folks for their extra generosity. Not sure yet how that will work (especially when serializing commissioned stories), so I might put that decision off until September.

TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: Not sure, TBH. Might post work stages for that Gen13 piece I drew for the Wildstorm 25th anniversary book, come to think of it.

Well, if you need more commissions to help make up that inflow/outflow let me know... Heh. And nice stuff.

Given the fact that Kei and Yuri both appear to be winking at the camera, I suspect that Ms. Mui should probably spend less time wondering about a profitable sale and more time contemplating the trap she's likely fallen into, the contents of those high heels, and whether she might not have properly covered her tracks when she prepped those cracked sequences for that Evil Yuri project.(Heck, if she was really overconfident, she might have even slipped a cracktro into some non-coding regions to brag; that sort of crap's far from unheard of). She'd better hope she can muster up the fighting skills of her namesake.

The Silver Socialist

Are the two chicks from Dirty Pair androids or something?

DimZebra

Very lovely commissions! Especially a fan of the positioning in the 'laid low' Yuri. And absolutely no worries if the DiD well runs dry for a bit, I'm loving what's been provided and you've got plenty to work on!

DimZebra

Yeah, if more commissions are needed I think that's something a lot of us would be interested in

Burninator

Nope, they're human, though they're genetically upgraded and also have a fair amount of implanted technology.

The expressions and reactions in these pieces are really what take them to that excellent "next level" of fun, beyond the DiD-content. They all have great senses of personality to them, and the compositions are a lot of fun.

Kei's legs and backside looking especially fine in that first page. And if this is post-FbnS, that's might even be the Yuri clone she made in front of her.

If you managed to sneak in any kind of tentacle into a piece that would make me stupidly happy.
