Recently unearthed a pair of 1993-vintage Bubblegum Crisis sample pencil pages I drew for various inkers to try out on, along with inks based on 'em by the great Robert Dejesus. (At least three other artists did inking samples, but I can't find any of those results.) Gotta say that Bob's inks look better than my pencils! (Note that I did reuse the hardsuit pencils from the first page's big panel in a published comic.)

Alas, the scheduling didn't work out for Bob to handle the inking of 1994's Dark Horse Bubblegum Crisis: Grand Mal miniseries, beyond a decent chunk of issue #1. Wound up inking most of the four issues myself, with a whole bunch of different inkers brought in on the final one as I slid inexorably behind schedule myself. (Those results, alas, did not generally work out as well as the sample pages above.)

Due to nightmarishly convoluted contractual issues, Grand Mal will never be reprinted.  Still, the project was an interesting and valuable learning experience, which I might someday post about here if time allows.

Wow! Robert's inks are crazy slick! Thanks for sharing this! It's a shame Grand Mal can never be reprinted. Very relieved that I have the issues in my collection (and the PDF versions thanks to AnimEigo's BGC Kickstarter from a few years back). ^_^

Those inks are CRAZY good.
