So!

Last week, I wrapped up page roughs for a sprawling, suitably epic introductory story for fantasy project The Last Party, which worked out quite well; I really enjoyed the experience of roughing out yet another long-ass issue after cranking out 80-odd similar roughs last month for fantasy comics Godplayers and The Chaste and the Chained.

One problem, however: I do not currently have a means of producing finished artwork for that 44-page introductory story! Thus, over the weekend I came up with an alternative strategy: I'll work on some short stories from The Last Party in the hopes of stumbling across a viable workflow that can later be used on that ginormous intro dealie! Yay!

Cue these Designs Ahoy sketches of a band of ill-fated bad guys:

And my first stab at the page 1 rough:

...and an alt pose for the Half-Orc Healer:

Continuing the alt variations theme, my initial rough for page 2:

...and some alt roughs, with a few Half-Orc sketches\\ poses for a later page:

 Page 2 merged roughs:

Onward:

 Action ahoy:

Yeahp, she can use her healing powers (which are more like "biomanipulation," really) offensively.

I like the idea that, despite being a strapping, muscular Amazon, the Half-Orc nonetheless displays really, well, "girly" body language, even in the midst of a fight. (Plus, gotta say that it's an interesting change of pace to draw cheescake-y imagery based on such a brawny body type.)

Anyhoo, the story rolls on with the Half-Orc using her powers in a much more gnarly manner against the remaining bad guy; I'll show you fine folks the rest of those roughs in a week or two, okay?

Admittedly, this 9-pager(!) isn't a particularly short short story (if you follow me), but what the heck; next up, I'll try Clip Studio Painting more finished pages based on these roughs.

NEXT TIME ON THIS HERE PATREON: No idea, TBH, but something should be coming up in the next M/W/F slot. Let's find out together, shall we?
