That is why Alexander the Great burst into tears ... or perhaps he was just girly all along?  This is another of my takes on history, where I generally expand on known crossdressers or likely transwomen, but in this case seek to explain the early demise of the greatest military leader ever known.  Watch out for my forthcoming collection of these stories which does require a few more new stories.

You make this sound almost believable, Maryanne. Choosing to tell this from the point of view of his/her adopted son really makes the story. Again, there's so much going on in your short stories that could be elaborated in a longer form. I think even Mary Renault would be almost convinced! So, if you ever wanted to write a truly slam-bang historical novel...

It is the TG element that I am working on here, and while there could have been a retelling of his campaigns as the "wife" of Hephaestion (as he may have been) it is the mystery of his death that lies at the core of this story. And the title says it all - when he is done all the manly things, it is time to become something else.
