In the original, this story being told is framed in such a way that it seems like Kinemon is telling them the Whole Story, which is why the Straw Hats are reacting so strongly to it, but in the anime the framing makes it seem like they're literally only getting this summary, which makes their violent and tearful reactions feel somewhat disjointed. It's really interesting how much the framing changes things.

the one thing I love about one piece is that a side character can still have a main character vibe. It's all about perspective and one piece does that the best.
