My favorite OP character is Ace. My favorite StrawHat though is Luffy. With another character taking 2nd favorite, Luffy is my 3rd favorite character overall for this series. His goofiness is just too much a joy for me not to like him. Even though he’s an absolute idiot 70-80% of the time!

I will have to disagree with you saying that most of the Marines have been bad people. I would say that the vast majority of the Marines are good people who are trying to do what is right. However, many of the Marines that we have seen in the series are the ones that come in direct conflict with the main crew and thus are painted in a more negative light. Sure, some of them such as Morgan have been corrupt and are bad people. But others who have taken part in bad events such as Momonga are still doing what they think is right and are now outright doing bad things. I would even argue that the "bad" Marines such as Akainu and Sengoku are doing what they feel is lawful and justified as much as we may not like it.

but what about the marines trying to secure the "hostages" slaves? there are good marines but the quantity is far below the ideal marine like coby, smoker, tashigi and somewhat aokiji. garp is barely passable hes on the barely passing spectrum.

I loved Luffy from the start in ep 1, but favorite SH? Roronoa Zoro. Favorite OP character overall? Trafalgar Law.
