Years later I look at the flashback between Shanks and Buggy with a whole new light thanks too the things I now know. And to answer your devil fruit question no you don't have to eat the whole thing just one bite will do and you get the power. But it only works for the first person to eat the fruit, after that it just becomes a really nasty tasting fruit, that doesn't grant any powers. But not many people in the one piece world knows that party and just to eat the whole thing by themselves

From what I've seen, there are two types of One Piece viewers: Those that connect immediately with Luffy and the crew, and those that enjoy the depth of the world building and characters that comes later in this arc. I am with you, Ruffles, in connecting right away with Luffy's fun character and his adventuring spirit. I didn't need to get to the later episodes to love this anime. I do agree, however, that the series only gets better after ep 20.

I'm actually doing a rewstch of your reactions but I have a theory as to why the one Buggy Balls explosion was smaller. So far, the Buggy Balls have been shot out of a cannon at high speed and velocity. This time, Luffy absorbed the impact and bounced it back, reducing the speed and velocity, thus reducing the explosion

Actually that's Buggy's real nose; he was born with it. So eventually he rolled with it and made himself clown-themed and his pirate crew circus themed. Even though he's trying to own it now, he doesn't do a good job and still gets mad as all hell when people make fun of it.
