Escapril & Progressive To-Do Lists (Patreon)
Content
Happy Monday (or Tuesday, for those much farther east than me bahaha)!
So last week I was scrolling through IG and happened upon "Escapril," an event that takes place during National Poetry Month!
(I'm not usually a fan of Instagram's algorithm, but in this case, their random recommendation really worked out well!)
Most of y'all will know that my big goal for the year is to "overcome" my white room syndrome and get better at painting a picture for my readers. For January and February, I used morning pages to practice my description. For March I've been repurposing the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding method as a checklist for my daily flash fiction.
But for April I thought.....maybe poetry???
It'll be a different kind of description challenge, shorter, but hopefully punchier too?
Let me know if you're thinking about participating! I might share a poem or two throughout April. :)
ALSO! Shout-out to everyone who recommended trying progressive to-do lists during the Double Stream Days this weekend. Today's my first attempt and I'm enjoying it so far!!
For those who also hadn't heard of this concept, here's how Aced_Coffee explained it to me:
I think this is really going to help me "brain dump" all the things I need to do for the week/month, but not feel so overwhelmed during each day that I freeze up.
It was really great hearing from others that used it, and how they slowly learned their magic number of tasks they can complete for the day without burning themselves out the rest of the week. I'm starting off low (4 for the day) and we'll see how it goes for the rest of March. I'll stay flexible and report back on how it helps. :)
Otherwise, please do recommend your favorite poetry book or specific poem, I'd love to check them out! Way back in 2021, when I did the Ray Bradbury Challenge, I read LIGHTHEAD by Terrance Hayes and enjoyed it soooo much. I'll probably pick it up again here soon.
Thanks y'all and happy writing! 🔮
