With release of the “Legendary Edition” Mass Effect trilogy remaster coming later this week, I figured it would be appropriate to share another quick status update regarding my work on “Nerf Effect.”

The short version is: “Yep, I’m still working on it!”

In between all the usual stuff, I’ve carried on chipping away at sketching out plot points, motivations, and branching choice-influenced consequences for a growing host of classic characters. In my own mind, at least, I continue to be pleased with how each of these little story elements manages to mesh faithfulness to the tone and “facts” of the original source material with coherent rationales and methodologies for spinning off into a kinky weight gain sabotage fiesta.

The image accompanying this post is, obviously, a bit of promotional art for the Mass Effect “Legendary Edition.” More specifically, though, it’s something I made using the tool EA provided for folks to create “customized” posters and box art featuring a selection of characters and imagery from the game franchise. In this case, what’s notable about the little poster I whipped up is that I designed it to feature specifically those characters (from among the ones available) for which I currently have the most substantial Nerf Effect content drafted.

So, if they’re on this poster, then you’re definitely gonna be seeing them in Nerf Effect. But that’s far from all the characters that will (at least potentially) have a hand in fattening Miranda’s increasingly imperfect (and just flat out increasing) ass. Sadly, the cast of characters available through the EA art customization tool is pretty limited, so there were a bunch I simply couldn’t include—or, in at least one case, include in a way that would be consistent with how they will appear in Nerf Effect. (Bonus points if you can figure out what I mean by that!) In fact, going just by what exists in my own not-yet-complete notes and draft passages for the game, there are at least 16 different recognizable characters from the franchise that I’ve gotten wrapped into the plot one way or another so far.

Weaving together all these disparate threads of source material and kinky perversion into a coherent tapestry is a time-consuming puzzle. Yet that challenge also makes it extra satisfying when the pile of yarn eventually starts to resemble fabric—fabric for form-fitting attire Miranda won’t be able to squeeze into for long.

But what do you all think:

 • Are there particular characters and settings you’re most interested to see show up in Nerf Effect?
 • Are you planning to get the “Legendary Edition” and play through the Mass Effect games again?
 • Is there some specific facet of the weight gain, sabotage, and humiliation themes you’d especially like to see represented in the game?

Let us know!

Nice update ! I was wondering what were the news on this and it is going pretty well ! Definetly glad to see Tali in the poster you've made since she's my favorite female character. (Hope to see her baloon as well haha) I'm glad that Nerf Effect is still ongoing and i'll keep an eye on it !

Nerf Effect Hype!!! I'll probably give the remaster a try, especially because ME1 with better shooting sounds lovely. You've previously alluded to a lot of the best characters/situations for a wg plot, so I'll try not to suggest anything you've already confirmed. One character I'd love to see play a role would be Dr. Chakwas. I can only imagine the struggle of trying to figure out what's going on and getting caught in the crossfire. Another who I feel deserves at least a minor role would have to be Mess Sergeant Gardner, if only because he'll probably have to deal with catering to any unusual demands. Those gourmet ingredients from the Citadel could be a lifesaver! The last character I could see being fun to include would be EDI of all people. Especially with Ms. Lawson's high-level status, I could imagine a bit of a cat and mouse game with EDI trying to recover from various sensor logs mysteriously going missing, along with quite a bit of medical and inventory data. As far as themes go, my only big thought would be that keeping the sabotage at least somewhat indirect would be good. Corruption and temptation are just so much better than outright domination imho.

I like the hype! I never played ME 1 myself, so this might be a good excuse to finally go do that. Regarding Karin Chakwas, Rupert Gardner, and EDI: I can confirm that all three not only are “in” Nerf Effect but each is the central focus of at least one “mission.” EDI plays a particularly prominent role in the overall story, I’d say. Also, some of the EDI and Gardner scenes are among the earliest stuff I sketched out for this general story idea—probably…jeez, around a decade ago now? In every case, I’m trying pretty hard to find plausible motives and means for all the things that occur. It’s a mix of practical and pervy. I tend to think humiliating, destructive weight gain is hotter when it makes sense, after all. As for “domination” versus “temptation,” my own FA preferences generally lean more towards being a “bad influence” than “grab the funnel” kind of action, and that tends to be reflected in my writing. With Nerf Effect, you’ll be starting the game with a highly competent, powerful, attractive Miranda. Tying her up and shoving cake in her face isn’t really a viable opening gambit. That’s not just because it would be difficult to accomplish in and of itself, but also because it’s just not something that (most of?) the rest of the crew would likely understand or accept. Every Mass Effect game tends to have at its core the concept of building and managing a motely team of seemingly conflicted characters. Nerf Effect will be similar in that respect. Finding ways to soften Miranda’s defenses (so to speak) and to leverage various motivations and relationships to your advantage will be a big part of the game. The stakes—and, perhaps, the overly exploitative (even “dominating”) nature of how Miranda is undermined—probably will tend to increase as the game progresses. That said, if you’ve played your hand appropriately and if you feel inclined to do so, by the end of the of the game I think you’ll likely have opportunity to play around with taking a very firm hand to a very un-firm Miranda. -Riptoryx

Tali is such a consistent part of the Mass Effect experience I figured I had to find a way to include her somehow. It’s tricky, though. While the way some characters would fit into this little scheme seemed immediately obvious to me, Tali wasn’t among those. After doing some deeper research into the nuances of canon Tali-Miranda relations, however, I think I better understand some suitably in-character reactions and motives for Tali in these circumstances. As I conceive it right now, the Tali-focused mission might actually present one of the best practical-benefit demonstrations of the justification for this whole sabotaging subterfuge…or, well…some characters’ justifications for it, anyway. Plus, after a recent reshuffling of some interactions, I’m thinking one of the rewards for success in that mission probably will be an “item” that’s among my early favorites. As for Tali “ballooning,” herself… Well, there are plot-specific reasons why Miranda will be getting fat that just don’t apply to anyone else. That said, I think everybody’s favorite little quarian intern probably has some interesting personal thoughts about (and perhaps even experiences with) weight gain that may come out in conversation. So, there might be at least a little nugget or two for you to dig up there. ;) -Riptoryx
