DUKES!!! PLEASE DROP YOUR PLEDGES!!! $20 GETS YOU NOTHING NOW!! IF YOU GET CHARGED FOR NOVEMBER, TELL ME!! I WILL REFUND YOU!!!

I'm ending the Duke tier. I need to clear my plate of the things I have. I thought I could handle this much work, but I've been behind every month for several months. This is a very easy job, I'm just not capable of doing it.

There is two days left in  the month and I still have six duke requests and two commissions that I've re-started multiple times because they look like shit, and putting out shitty art isn't acceptable anymore, not for someone with my privilege. I want to take my time with them. I don't want to rush. I want them to be good. I can't put anymore on my plate for a while.

I don't intend to reinstate this tier, even after I've caught up. I know there are some Dukes who only 'cashed in' once every two months or so, essentially giving me lots of free money (thanks), but you should seriously drop to $10 or $5. I can't justify taking more than that. This smut stuff should only be my side-hustle. I need to find an actual part-time job in the world, even if it's just back at the packing facility where I worked before.

Once I've cleared my plate, I intend to go back to doing more commissions, I guess. Mostly because I think I'm out of my own ideas. I'll be open to all price ranges, I think. I can imagine doing small $30 or $50 commissions actually. One-character pinups. Funny images. Maybe that would be better than burning myself out on big concept comics that I can't even finish. I'll open up on Patreon about taking commissions, but I'm not going to restrict it to any tier. Even people who give me $1 will see my notifications. I don't want to straddle my potential clients into a wealth-hierarchy.

Obviously, if you are a Duke, feel free to contact me about wrapping things up. If you haven't seen you latest reward, let me know, just to make sure that I'm working on it.

I'm not going away. I'm just shriveling up a bit.

Courageous decision, thanks for the explanation and best of lucks buddy.

Do what’s best for you. If duke is gone, it’s not the end of the world for us. As long as you think it will help you, then that’s fine.

If it affects you mentally, then that's a decision I'll respect.

I hope it'll give me more time to make better art, which will make me feel better, yes. Thank you.

Unfortunate but completely understandable. Have you considered just raising the price on the Duke tier significantly to lower the amount of takers, and/or not doing any coloring on the sketches? I think putting out what you see as "bad" art (which is almost never bad at all, btw) is understandable if you significantly cut down on the time put into each sketch, and focus more on stuff you actually want to draw. Just spitballing, though; whatever makes you happy is the most important!

It's not a bad idea. The problem I need to address at the moment is my WIPs. I'll reassess once those are done. Maybe I'll reintroduce a commission-tier pledge, but I'd kinda just rather leave it really loose and informal, that way I'm never taking more than I can handle. I was letting myself get way to elaborate with these, you're right about that. I just think that maybe if I back off of the money-angle a bit (by getting another part-time job) I won't stress out about the product I put out, which will actually lead to a better product.

Sorry to hear, man

Devon

A shame that deleting the tier loses all patron only posts oh well. Don't push yourself. It was nice to support you well I could

makai9

Long overdue bro. You'll lose some $ but I think you should try something like 5 for either most or all standard art, 10 for either all art meaning some 5 doesn't get or just all pieces in hd, maybe one commission tier. Something like that. You'll lose some patrons prob but if you go back to drawing what and when you want, there are still people who will just pay to see the keeva comics, mark comics, etc.

I'm hoping that in a month or so, once I start taking commissions again, the $$$ will balance out. I think this is smart, and opening up to the broader community here for commissions should keep me interested.

I wish you luck with your future endeavors.

markydaysaid

Well, that's the thing. This is still my 'current' endeavor. I'm just getting slower and slower.

Totally understandable and best you work at your own pace.
