I prefer the term 'shadowmancer' or 'umbramancer,' but I don't think DnD uses those. As for Tieflings, you know what? I like Tieflings. I like their look. My only complaint is that I wish they had hooves like Draenei, but I'm sure I coudl get away with drawing them like that and no one would care. My only complaint about Tieflings was that I just think their are too many fantasy races these days, and I think it makes sense to parse things down to keep things simple. I'd rather Tieflings just be demi-demons, or demon-human hybrids (pretty much what they actually are), and not give them an original name and all that.

Apparently hooves are an option. I've only seen art of them with human feet though.

I also prefer the latin to refer magician, while is not overly user, umbramancer should be as correct as Pyromancer. I think the problem is not the many fantasy races, us trying to have them all in the same setting

There are a lot of unofficial tiefling miniatures that have hooves! Not too sure what the rulebooks say officially

I think hooves were only mandatory in 4E, were they get a defined form. Also there are differences between mage and sorcerer in DnD but will not get there ^^
