The vagus nerve represents the main component of the parasympathetic nervous system, which oversees a vast array of crucial bodily functions, including control of mood, immune response, digestion, and heart rate.

In the neck, the vagus nerve provides required innervation to most of the muscles of the pharynx and larynx, which are responsible for swallowing and vocalization. In the thorax, it provides the main parasympathetic supply to the heart and stimulates a reduction in heart rate.

Stress can cause the vagus nerve to operate poorly and may even cause a person to faint when faced with extreme distress. The vagus nerve plays a major role in decreasing inflammation and monitoring/regulating heart functions.

By stimulating the vagus nerve, you are sending a message to your body that it's time to relax and de-stress, which will lead to long-term improvements in your mood, wellbeing and resilience. Increasing your vagal tone will allow you to overcome anxiety and depression, and manage them much better when they occur.

A damaged vagus nerve may result in nausea, bloating, diarrhoea and gastroparesis (in which the stomach empties too slowly).

Listen at a low and comfortable volume, 2-3 times a day for best results.

I highly recommend listening to my Healthy Gut Flora video too. This will improve your Brain-Gut Axis and help you stay happy and healthy. https://youtu.be/TLOoJvvm_Jw

Please don't listen while driving or using heavy machinery, and remember to drink plenty of water to aid the healing process and avoid headaches. Headphones are optional. Unisex

Here are some more things that help strengthen your vagus nerve:

• Alternate-nostril breathing.

• Apply cold compresses to your face and the back of your neck.

• Diaphragmatic breathing, the slower the better.

• Breathe deeply and slowly.

• Eat a whole-food diet.

• Connect with nature.

• Be quiet.

• Have an attitude of gratitude.

• Exercise (within your ability/within your physician’s guidelines)

• Expose your skin to sunlight.

• Massages.

• Laugh and giggle often.

• Listen to calming instrumental music.

• Listen to music with uplifting, happy, grateful lyrics.

• Sing.

• Meditate.

• Hum (such as a rhythmic Om)

Happy healing! :)
