While this actually happened - fortunately I was only boiling water and managed to rescue it before damage was done - the latch was actually on our new apartment's balcony windows. Attaching the latch to a wall wasn't practical for the comic layout, though, so I changed the location to a floor.

I love that balcony, too, the whole thing is covered in glass panel from the open side, with a rail in the middle. The top half ones can all be opened or shut, so the balcony can either be in fully open air or function as an unheated extra room, with a whole glass wall. A human aquarium! And we did manage to unlatch them in the end, too.

It now houses our fox plushes, which the love of my life lovingly arranged there. On both sides of our unfortunately deceased tomato plant.

That balcony setup is adorable! Also, don’t feel too bad about the tomato plant. It’s been a rough year for them for pretty much everybody I know
