There's a certain quirk that older finnish men do, that I don't know for sure is just finnish men or universal with 50-something and up men in general, which is that their sense of humour consists of occasionally saying absurd things as a joke with a completely straight face and the same intonation as when they talk about serious stuff.

One time when we were visiting my bf's parents, and my boyfriend's finger was strained from operating a spray can earlier. His father, completely calmly, suggested that he should stick his whole hand inside a beehive (they have recently started keeping bees!) so that the bee stings would cure it.

The whole joke is that they know that you know them, and know that the absurd thing they just said was a joke. And if you don't know him and know him to be a sane and sensible man who wouldn't just say insane things with all seriousness, having you now think he is insane is also hilarious. My dad did that too.

In the other news, I'm no longer feeling sick! Haven't checked temperature but I think this will be the last day I spend in bed with this flu.

My grandpa was Finnish and he would get people like that all the time! I'm glad you're feeling better!

I do that sometimes and I can't even spell Finish...
