My nieces as young toddlers were aaaall about the gift wrap, box, and ribbon. The actual thing not so much.

In my family it's tradition to unwrap all presents VERY carefully, so the paper isn't torn, and my sister-in-law collects the paper for reuse. I think some sheets are in use since decades. One of the first things one of my nephews did after he had moved into his own appartment was - "my house - my rules" - to shred the wrapping paper of all his presents into tiny pieces.
