I need your opinion on something! (Patreon)
Content
A few weeks ago I found the Patreon setting shown in this image post.
And I realized it would be a great solution to avoid scammers (People who only join to steal content and leave before the month ends, that way dodging the pledge charges, or simply using chargebacks to avoid paying at all)
The current system I use (Monthly pledges that are only charged in the end of the month regardless of when you join) was always a big flaw in Patreon, it let people join and leave freely without being charged right away, which compromised my content here in general.
Even though I use posts and not direct messages for sending out files, because I want older files to be available for every new person that joins, I still think it's not correct to have this system that can be abused so easily, when I have the option to change that.
But I needed your opinion first, because it's a permanent change!
From the research that I did, some Creators received some backlash from turning this option on, specially the ones that didn't give a single warning before doing so. And I want to avoid that, I want to make something nice for everyone and be sure that I make the right decision.
From my research, what this option would change is:
- New Patrons would need to pay their pledge right away instead of only at the end of the month, which would help the thing that happens during every month end (around 20 to 40 patrons delete their pledges and makes the total I receive look very misleading because it gets decreased badly)
- Current Patrons would feel no impact, they would still be supporting the same way, but paying their pledges on the 1st instead of the end of the month
Now I'm not sure if this would make all the pledges to become upfront and not just the new ones, but if it does I think it won't be a problem because I still keep uploading at least 4 files per month and patrons can always cancel their pledge and come back in the future, catching up with the old files they missed :3
Tell me what you think of this, your comment is always important!
