Well, to be fair, I am *very* afraid that an all powerful undefinable supernatural being created and controls this absolute mess of dissonance and suffering, and billions of people are absolutely convinced in a different form of that being existing, and telling them that everyone else is an enemy, because going by the track record of history, that is something to be afraid of.

People who believe in aliens and Bigfoot and Santa are not trying to get the government to impose their beliefs on the population as a whole. That's why there is not as much of an effort to argue with their ideas. I wouldn't care about people believing in religion if it was as harmless as these other beliefs.
