Update: Patreon have now announced a walkback on these changes, which comes as a huge relief. The below text represents my stance on a fee change that was previously announced that would have shifted payment fees to be the responsibility of supporters rather than creators, which would have been a gross change.

So, quite understandably a lot of you have revoked pledges today due to the new Patreon fee structure. I can't blame you for doing so. I was perfectly happy to pay the transaction fees as I always have been doing and passing this on to you guys is a ridiculous disincentive. I can only hope they realize this is a mistake when they see the impact it's having on many of their creators for whom small pledgers are a vital backbone.

This comes at a particularly rubbish time being that I've just seen a recent uptick in new pledges since Ludum Dare (Hello new people!) which has basically 1:1 been undone by these dumb changes. Just as I become hopeful for the longterm viability of my career via this platform, the platform decides to needlessly self-harm. Welp.

I can't really offer any useful thoughts or insights on the matter other than a hope that Patreon sort this out and that as always you should only ever be pledging what you are able, willing and happy to give.

Cheers,

-S

Shaun ill stick with you man its a shame that they are making me pay an extra 2 dollars per vid now but meh i'm okay with it i know you will let us know if you switch to a different platform. You have helped me with improving allot of things. Hopefully Patreon gets its head back in the real world ,realities collide to inform them oh snap we messed up.

A result at least, but what a shame that so many creators, including yourself have already suffered as a result... https://blog.patreon.com/not-rolling-out-fees-change/
