Hullo! So far so good on my new schedule. Knowing in advance that I want to release videos on Wednesdays is doing me a lot of good in terms of planning. I feel like I've rounded off the whole saving files stuff reasonably enough and touched upon all the necessary elements. At the moment developing this flexible text display engine is helpful both for me and the next-game-I'm-maybe-sort-of-working-on (shhhh (you guys will find out stuff earlier than most on this front) shhhh) but also for the sake of teaching it. I feel like stuff that's not a direct part of gameplay like cutscenes, dialogue and transitions are something that really throw a lot of people. The first thought most people have is to I guess generall hard code a lot of this stuff. Which does work and can be necessary to a point but I think learning some neat tricks on setting up text boxes and so on would be rather useful. My plan as far as this goes at the moment is to do the following: * Make sure the system I'm building is flexible enough to handle lots of situations without being overly complex. * Present the _roots_ of the system in a tutorial video (part 1) * Follow up with a video of applying the system to an existing game (part 2) (Creating some sort of talking NPC within the established platformer environment) Either before, or after this I'm going to work on a screen transitions tutorial as it's pretty popular on the Spreadsheet ( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FpgkdQa56aPFIHUjIDevayXb8ppazQ8qTLnuXvlTl1I/edit#gid=0 ) A spreadsheet which I still need to find a better way to present. I don't feel like just frequently linking it on here is particularly great. I wish I had some way with which to host it directly at Patreon or make it a very visible page for everyone pledging. More thought still needed.
