Who is that not-masked woman?!

Commentary

Varia Delmtina is named after Daria from Daria, Velma from Scooby Doo, and Tina from Bob's Burgers.

Now, full confession: Unless you count a bizarre meta-cameo in Archer, I have not actually watched Bob's Burgers. I needed a third person for this nonsense, and when I asked for someone who fit in a triangle that already included Daria and Velma, Tina was a suggestion people seemed to be on board with.

In any case, I like the resulting name, and I might try the show out someday if for no other reason than I expect to be yelled at several seconds after people read this commentary.

Speaking of Daria, I wasn't sure whether to change Varia's hair color in the last panel, and ultimately decided to do so in order to effectively reference Brittany, a cheerleader in Daria.

When I originally wrote this, I did what I sometimes do, and wrote WAY TOO MUCH for an EGSNP. It included an incorrect power set that there was absolutely no room to include, and was changed to Rhea's claim that she wasn't helpful.

Of course, that doesn't mean we won't be hearing about some incorrect powers for her, and possibly others...

I can't recall - has Dan ever established a name for Elliott's "mild mannered" identity? "Varia Delmtina" sounds pretty good, actually...

Oof. It's late. I read that line as "I expect people to be yelling that name several seconds after they finish reading this commentary." So I said "Varia Delmtina" in a loud tone. :/ Fun name though :D

Ah! I think I have the right phrasing this time. "Question: In "Changes" Arthur implies the giant scale isn't draconic. Is it more likely to be from a magic dinosaur or a prehistoric Uryuom?"

James C

A question with a wide scope for answers: how did Raven get his "old hunting injury"? (The one he uses as an excuse for his cane)

Matt R

Have the female characters ever experimented with mermaid and or MILF forms?

David Howe

"Hunting Tigers during WW2" "Why was he hunting Tigers?" "Dunno, but the turrets pop right off if you hit them hard enough"

Some Ed

It only looks like a scale. It's actually a piece of egg shell. The eggs in question are impervious to all known forces from without, and require magic to burst them from within. Having a fragment in the shape of a scale is kind of unusual, but not entirely unheard of. I mean, after all, we've all heard of one, right?

He collected enough proof of purchase codes, cut them out, sent them in, and redeemed them.

There was a pool party sequence in the sketchbooks back a ways, Grace showed up with a mermaid tail. (August 2012)

Mark

Is that a Rivers of London reference? Raven, Nightingale?

David Howe

@Mark - Yes, yes it is. The comics were a mild disappointment though, he only takes out a plane or two there.
