Chapter 21: Treating Differently

Sheng Mingsi found out that she had almost never attended school. In the six years after her parents' accidental death and her adoption by colleagues, they hadn't let her go to school.

As for why, he was unclear.

Although she had a paternal uncle, Jiang Zhong, a person known for his questionable character and only pursuing his own interests, Sheng Mingsi had encountered him before.

Additionally, Jiang Chenchen's parents' savings and the compensation from the accidents, Sheng Mingsi was determined to find out who had taken them.

For now, he only asked her why she hadn't gone to school.

Jiang Chenchen kept her head down, not saying a word, squeezing the milk tea cup in her hand until it was almost deformed.

It was a painful and numb memory, and she didn't want to talk about it.

Her memory was excellent, and she couldn't forget it.

She didn't tell him.

Seeing that she didn't want to talk, Sheng Mingsi didn't press further. However, noticing that she had squeezed out all the milk tea, making her hands and clothes messy, the unspoken emotions made him feel uncomfortable.

Sheng Mingsi reached over, took the milk tea from her hand, placed it on the coffee table, and used tissues to wipe her hands.

His movements were considered gentle; he rarely treated a girl like this.

When he realized it, even the spilled milk tea on her and her clothes had been cleaned.

Jiang Chenchen glanced at him, and a pair of usually expressionless eyes unexpectedly had a hint of teardrops.

Sheng Mingsi was surprised. This was the first time he had seen her like this. Perhaps she was a girl who had experienced things beyond the ordinary, and even a small action like this could move her.

Was it so?

He couldn't tell.

Jiang Chenchen rubbed her eyes, wiping away the tears that were only in her eye sockets, and said slowly, "I will study hard."

Sheng Mingsi maintained a bit of distance, promising, "You don't have to worry about the tuition; I'll consider it as sponsoring an impoverished student. When you succeed in the future, you can use your abilities to help others."

Jiang Chenchen thought for a moment and said earnestly, "But I only attended first grade."

Sheng Mingsi felt a headache coming on from this matter. "I will arrange it properly; don't worry."

Confirming again, he asked, "Do you want to go to your uncle's house?"

Jiang Chenchen shook her head.

Afraid she would say something like "I only want to be with you" again, Sheng Mingsi quickly added, "Alright, I will take care of this matter."

With the conversation winding down, Chu Yiyang returned.

He looked at Jiang Chenchen differently. Apart from Sheng Mingsi's family and work partners, few women could spend such a long time alone with him.

Changing into different clothes, he looked at Sheng Mingsi. "We can go eat now; are you treating?"

"Sure."

Sheng Mingsi also stood up. "But before that, please provide proof that Jiang Chenchen's consciousness is normal."

Chu Yiyang nodded. "Okay."

The three of them drove to a restaurant.

On the way, Chu Yiyang tried to ask how they knew each other.

Sheng Mingsi, driving while speaking coldly, said, "Mind your own business."

Chu Yiyang laughed. "Alright, I won't ask you. I'll ask her."

Just now, she spoke with Sheng Mingsi, so she should have opened up, right?

He tried to ask her a question.

But Jiang Chenchen remained unresponsive.

Chu Yiyang felt awkward for a while. This can't be, right? He doesn't look like some strange creature; the age gap between him and Sheng Mingsi isn't that big.

What kind of mysterious thing happened between Sheng Mingsi and this girl?

He speculated for a while, as if it suddenly appeared.

Sheng Mingsi glanced at her. She was leaning against the car window, looking at the street scene outside.

He asked her, "What do you want to eat, apart from cold dishes?"

Jiang Chenchen thought for a moment. "Rice."

"..."

She truly was a simple eater.

Chu Yiyang on the side: This girl indeed treats people differently!

As they arrived at the restaurant, before they entered, a police car blocked their way.
