Chapter 19: Solitary Figure

"I'll have someone take you back."

Back to where?

Jiang Chencheng didn't care; anywhere was fine, as nowhere was her home.

She didn't say anything, just glanced at him.

He turned away, completely indifferent.

She couldn't see his face, the face that had been etched in her small memories until now.

A slight sadness settled in her chest.

She covered her heart, not understanding why it felt this way.

But without hesitation, she left.

Wu Bi drove Jiang Chenchen to Sheng Mingsi's friend, Chu Yiyang.

A friend from a psychological research institute. Half an hour later, that friend called Sheng Mingsi.

"Hey, Sheng, where did this girl come from? She's pretty but seems dull, doesn't say a word. I tried hypnotizing her with psychological suggestions, but it doesn't work. She doesn't say a single word."

"Not saying anything at all?"

"Not a single word."

Sheng Mingsi put down his work, silent for a moment. "Did you look at her hospital records?"

Chu Yiyang replied, "I did. According to the records, she experienced childhood mental trauma. Her parents died in a lab fire when she was six, and colleagues who adopted her perished in a fire when she was twelve. Two similar fires causing deaths may have left an indelible psychological scar on her."

"But based on the records, at least her behavioral abilities seem intact. It's just a lack of will to live. She seems indifferent to how her life turns out, going with the flow."

Sheng Mingsi had already reviewed those records, even finding information about Jiang Chenchen being taken abroad by doctors for two years.

His voice was extremely cold. "How do we treat her?"

Chu Yiyang didn't sound optimistic. "Medication alone might not be enough. She needs trust and a desire to live."

"Oh, by the way, who is she? How come I don't know you know such a girl?"

Sheng Mingsi didn't answer that question. "Keep her there for now. I'll come later."

After ending the call, another one came in.

Glancing at it, he answered, "What's the matter?"

"Miss Sheng asked me to inform you that you must come home for dinner tonight."

"No time."

"Oh, Asa, you should at least come back once. I can't handle Miss Sheng's anger this time! She has something arranged for tonight..."

Before she finished her sentence, the call ended.

"This guy and his temper! So infuriating!"

The assistant hesitated when coming in, then proceeded with the report.

"President Gu, for the casting of the film in this investment, President Su wants to recommend someone to you."

"Who?"

"He said he wants to discuss it over dinner this Sunday."

"Let's talk about it later."

Gu Mingmei declined, thinking about the girl she had met that day. She would be a good fit.

But she didn't call.

...

After finishing his work, Sheng Mingsi drove to Chu Yiyang's place.

It was already dark.

When he went upstairs, there was a beverage shop next door.

He hesitated for a moment, then bought a few drinks and went up.

Seeing him arrive, Chu Yiyang hurried over. "Sheng, you finally came. Bring the girl with you. Look, she's been staring at the sky from the window for a long time."

Handing a drink to Chu Yiyang, he walked towards Jiang Chenchen.
