Chapter 17: Is It You?

Li Zhenhai and his group found the vicinity of the bar and located their car but didn't find anyone around.

After inquiring at a convenience store, they learned that Jiang Chenchen had left with a young man from there.

Yuelian was incredulous, "She really came to buy ice cream."

"Buy what? I think it's just a cover. Look at where we are. She must have gone into the bar with some other man!" Li Zhenhai sneered.

"If that's the case, I don't want such a woman to marry my son!" Liang Zhong hurriedly explained, "Mr. Li, please don't misunderstand. My Niece is very innocent. She must have been deceived by someone. Let's go in and find her."

They didn't find her in the bar either. Liang Zhong requested to check the surveillance footage, but the bar refused to show it. The people behind the bar had strong connections and didn't give Li Zhenhai any face.

After leaving, Li Zhenhai started settling scores.

"I'm telling you, if your niece has done something disgraceful, we won't accept her. Either be prepared for bankruptcy, or send your own daughter to us."

Liang Zhong clenched his fist.

...

The car arrived at Sheng Mingsi's residence.

A standalone top-notch residential area.

It was already past 3 am, and the night wind was chilly. Sheng Mingsi, feeling a headache from the alcohol and the cold wind, led Jiang Chenchen into the house. It was much warmer inside.

He took off his coat and brought out a pair of slippers.

"Change."

Jiang Chencheng obediently changed and, as soon as she entered, put the ice cream in the refrigerator. She took out some change from her pocket, thought for a moment, and then put it back.

Meanwhile, Sheng Mingsi poured two cups of hot water. After drinking one himself, he asked her to come over.

"Drink."

Jiang Chenchen went over and drank.

Sheng Mingsi led her upstairs, pointing at the room near the entrance. "Sleep here. There's a bathroom in the room. Don't go anywhere else."

Jiang Chenchen nodded and entered the room.

"Wait."

Jiang Chenchen turned to look at him.

Sheng Mingsi averted his gaze and went to his own room to fetch a set of his own pajamas. "These are new. Change into them."

Jiang Chencheng took them and entered the room.

The door closed.

Exhausted, Sheng Mingsi patiently finished his nightly routine, then went to sleep without giving much thought to what he would do with her tomorrow.

Tomorrow was another day.

As dawn approached, Sheng Mingsi had a nightmare, a recurring one where he struggled, shouted, and broke into a cold sweat. He couldn't escape, couldn't wake up.

Someone reached out and held his hand. He grasped it tightly, as if grabbing onto the last straw.

In that dream, everything chaotic was shattered, and the world quieted down.

Head heavy, he slept peacefully.

Upon waking up, the room was bright with sunlight. Sheng Mingsi thought about the powerful hand in his dream, suddenly sat up, and the towel on his forehead fell off.

Who was it?

But there was no one else in the room.

It couldn't be anyone else; he had locked the door.

But the towel on his forehead...

He pushed aside the blanket, walked to the door, checked the lock—it was intact. Opening the door and looking outside, he saw Jiang Chenchen's room diagonally across. Was it her?

How did she get in, climb through the window?

The window wasn't locked.

Dragging his weary body, Sheng Mingsi went to Jiang Chenchen's room. His face was dark, and his eyes were icy.

He knocked, but no one answered. The door wasn't closed.

He gently pushed it, and it opened.

No one in the room.

He walked to the balcony, tension in his expression. Pushing the sliding door open, he indeed saw Jiang Chencheng sitting on the railing, legs hanging outside, looking up at the sky.

The scene seemed harmonious, but the action was genuinely dangerous.

"Is it you?" he walked over and asked, his voice cold and slightly hoarse.

"Hmm?" Jiang Chenchen turned her head upon hearing the voice.

The wooden beauty of Young Master Sheng(18)
