Chapter 2387: Several Girls Locked in the Dungeon

Now that Wei Qin had recovered from her journey, she wanted to make a trip back to Qingxuan County.

"I have some things left in Qingxuan County that I'd like to retrieve before leaving," she explained. After all, she might not return to this place in the future.

Shu Yu replied, "But most of the backyard of Cheng Family's shop has been burned down, especially your room. Even if it hasn't burned down, the remaining items are probably at the yamen."

Wei Qin smiled, "I didn't leave those things in residence. Although they aren't valuable, they were what I took when I left the Hong family. Sometimes, when Cheng Jiatong's temper flared, she would destroy my things. After an incident, I hid the items while accompanying her to the temple to offer incense."

"I see. Well, I'll accompany you on this trip."

Wei Qin quickly protested, "No need, no need. You've been busy these days, and I can go by myself."

"I've taken care of most of the things I needed to do, and now we're just waiting for the goods to arrive to open the business. Besides, I have something to do in Qingxuan County."

"What kind of thing?" Wei Qin asked curiously.

"I need to find a few people."

Wei Qin didn't inquire further about who those people were. With Shu Yu accompanying her, she felt relieved.

The two of them quickly packed their belongings and set out early the next day.

Wei Qin had mentioned that the temple was located outside the city, so they first went to retrieve her belongings and then entered the city.

Qingxuan County was quite far from Hetai Prefecture, and they would have to spend the night there.

Upon entering the city, Shu Yu arranged for two rooms at the inn where she had previously stayed. This inn seemed somewhat different now, and at the very least, the assistant who had posed as Meng Yunzheng was no longer there.

Shu Yu told Wei Qin to rest at the inn while she went to the county yamen with Ying Xi.

At the yamen, Shu Yu found the county magistrate, who was clearly overwhelmed with work, and inquired, "Are the girls, He Fang and Kang Shuxian, still being held in the dungeon?"

The county magistrate recognized who she was talking about and nodded, "Yes, they are still in the dungeon."

"Hasn't the interrogation concluded yet?" Shu Yu already knew that He Fang was the mastermind.

However, after spending so much time with He Fang, it was unclear whether the others were involved or had been coerced. As a result, all the girls had been placed in the dungeon. The failure to capture He Fang had allowed her to stir up trouble again.

The interrogation of the girls had taken longer and become more rigorous this time.

"It's almost finished," the county magistrate replied. "None of the girls have issues. After several rounds of questioning, they've been cleared of suspicion. These past few days, the county yamen has been preparing to release those who have been cleared to return home. If you're not in a hurry, County Princess, I can arrange for them to be brought out."

Shu Yu contemplated for a moment and said, "I'll go over with you."

"Alright, County Princess, please follow me." The county magistrate knew that Shu Yu had played a significant role in this operation. He found an official and had him accompany Shu Yu to the dungeon.

The dungeon was very dim, and Shu Yu, following the official, could clearly hear the curses and cries from the cells on both sides.

The official guiding her said, "Qingxuan County's black market case has implicated many people. Anyone with connections has been brought in for questioning, including some who worked at the yamen. They joined the rebels, which has also affected their families. This dungeon is overcrowded now. It's dark in here, so be careful, County Princess."

Shu Yu nodded, and they continued walking, occasionally hearing curses and cries in the background.

Finally, they stopped outside a somewhat cramped cell.
