Chapter 2159: Selling Rouge and Powder Cheaply

After seeing Meng Yunzheng off to the examination hall, Shu Yu went straight to the Yao residence.

However, at this moment, Yao Tianqin was working at the Ministry of Works, and recently, due to the upcoming spring exams, the court was very busy. Although the examination process was under the Ministry of Rites' jurisdiction, other departments had also been mobilized to ensure the safety and order during the exams.

Not only was Yao Tianqin not at home, but it seemed like he might not be coming home at night these days.

As for Yao Bo, he had been studying at the National Academy for the past few years and participated in the local exam last year. Unfortunately, due to spending five or six years in the southwest without making progress in his studies, coupled with his less remarkable aptitude compared to Meng Yunzheng, and the intense competition in the capital, he had sadly failed. He could only wait for the next opportunity to try again.

He wasn't at home either, so there were only Yao Tianqin's wife and daughter-in-law and their two-year-old grandson at home.

Fortunately, Madam Yao wife knew of some skilled craftsmen. She could introduce Shu Yu to a couple of them.

Following the address provided by Madam Yao, Shu Yu visited a few craftsmen and inquired about their prices, examined their workmanship, and ultimately chose the one closest to Futai Street.

This craftsman named Ding was meticulous in his work, and most importantly, he was available to start the renovation in a couple of days.

Shu Yu and Ding agreed on a date, and when she left his place, it was still early, just past noon.

Since Futai Street wasn't far away, Shu Yu decided to visit her shop.

Today was already the third day, and according to her agreement with Cen Yi, the shop should have been vacated by now. She wondered how things were going.

Shu Yu, accompanied by Ying Xi, headed straight for the Rouge and Powder shop. As she approached, she saw that the place was lively and bustling. It was a stark contrast to the quiet days of the previous week.

At the entrance, there was a shop assistant, actively calling out to passersby, "Last day, our shop's last day of business! All our rouge and powder is on sale, don't miss out!"

This shop assistant was a new face; Shu Yu hadn't seen him when she visited before. He was likely someone Cen Yi had brought in to help.

The shop assistant didn't recognize Shu Yu, so when he saw them stopping at the entrance, he quickly approached and invited them, "Would you like to come inside, Miss? Our Rouge and Powder products are excellent. Since the owner is closing the business, everything is on sale at a low price."

Before Shu Yu could respond, a man nearby walked over and asked, "Is your shop closing down? Are you renting or selling the shop?"

It seemed like this shop assistant had encountered several people asking the same question. With an experienced but somewhat helpless tone, he replied, "I'm sorry, but the shop has already changed hands. As for the new owner's plans, I'm not quite sure."

The man looked disappointed. He glanced at the two-story shop and sighed before walking away.

Shu Yu smiled and followed the shop assistant's guidance to enter the shop.

Compared to the lively scene outside, there were even more people inside. They were gathered in small groups, discussing the purchase of rouge and powder boxes.

The shop had also added more assistants, but Shu Yu didn't spot the insider who had spied on her previously. It seemed that Cen Yi had taken care of that matter.

The shopkeeper, Mr. Fang, recognized Shu Yu immediately. He had a strong impression of her since she had purchased a large amount of goods on her last visit. Besides, she was a beautiful young lady who was hard to forget.

Moreover, later on, he had received news that this young lady was the new owner of the shop, which had surprised him even more.

At this point, it was the third day of the clearance sale, and Mr. Fang thought that she had come to urge him.
