Chapter 1836: I Know She's Not Well

Shu Rui and his companions were very pleased and eagerly agreed.

Grandma Lu couldn't help shaking her head as she told them, "Alright, all of you go back to your rooms and rest for now. If there's anything, we can discuss it later."

Lu Sanzhu was exhausted and heard this, so he turned around and left with his son, saying, "I've chosen a room, I'm going now. Don't try to snatch it from me."

Who would snatch it from him? He was the one lacking respect for his elders.

Grandma Lu gave a cold snort, instructing Lu Erbai to follow him and keep an eye on things. After all, they were guests in the Meng family's residence, so they shouldn't be too noisy and breach decorum.

Once everyone had left, Shu Yu stood up as well. "Grandmother, you should rest for a while too. It's still early."

But just as she stood up, Grandma Lu grabbed her and pulled her back.

Confused, Shu Yu looked at her. "Grandmother?"

"Don't be in a hurry to leave. I have something to ask you."

Shu Yu immediately realized that Grandma Lu wanted to know about her aunt's situation. After all, that was her purpose for coming here.

She smiled and said, "Grandmother, you're being too anxious. Don't worry, Grand Aunt is doing well. She doesn't live in the county town, and tomorrow I'll take you to see her."

However, Grandma Lu let out a sigh. "You don't have to hide it from me. I know she's not doing well."

"Grandmother..."

Grandma Lu pulled out the letter Shu Yu had sent back to report her safety. "I've read your letter. You wrote that you found her and will bring her back after the New Year, but there's nothing else. I found that strange. Honestly tell me, what has happened to your Grand aunt?"

Initially, Grandma Lu hadn't thought much about it when she received the letter. She had been immersed in the joy of finally finding her sister.

It was only when Ruan Shi mentioned preparing gifts for her sister's family that Grandma Lu woke up to reality. Shu Yu hadn't mentioned anyone else in her letter.

Grandma Lu understood Shu Yu well. For her, this was a momentous occasion, a decades-long concern that had finally been resolved. Now, she wanted to know more details about her sister's situation, a detailed account that could make her even happier.

However, the letter only contained a few brief sentences, barely summarizing the situation, and hadn't even mentioned how many people were in her sister's family. This was far from normal.

Moreover, Shu Yu had said she would bring "her" back, not "them."

A sense of foreboding began to creep into Grandma Lu's heart. She realized her sister must have been through some extremely difficult times over the years.

Unknowingly, Shu Yu's letter had given away her secret, causing her to chuckle wryly.

Saying too much was wrong, but saying too little also made people realize something was off.

With a sigh, Shu Yu said, "Grandmother, the situation with Grand Aunt is a bit complex. You're tired from the journey, so let's discuss it another day."

"No need, go ahead and tell me. I've been mentally prepared for this throughout the journey."

Grandma Lu insisted, and Shu Yu knew she couldn't hide it any longer.

Well, sooner or later she would have found out.

Shu Yu held Grandma Lu's hand and began to explain, as simply as possible, the events that had befallen her aunt all those years ago.

Even though she tried to keep it simple, she still had to address everything that needed to be said.

As Grandma Lu listened, her hands began to tremble lightly. By the time Shu Yu finished speaking, her face was streaked with tears.

Even Hua Xian, who was nearby, couldn't help but shed tears, wiping her eyes with her sleeve.

Shu Yu hugged Grandma Lu's shoulder, gently patting her back.

"Why, how could this happen? How has she managed all these years? Fool, such a fool. Why didn't she send a letter back to confirm... With no family by her side, struggling with illness and infertility, she's been through so much."
