Chapter 1807: Meng Yunzheng Returns

Doctor Guo nodded, "Yes, I've heard that Doctor Zhao has his own unique methods for treatment, and sometimes his prescriptions can be quite radical."

In that case, Aunt Fang should refrain from seeing other doctors for now.

"I was thinking the same way. So, before we return to Dong'an Prefecture, Aunt Fang's situation will still require your attention, Doctor Guo."

"Of course, it's my duty." Doctor Guo was pleased, as he had been meaning to inquire more about Doctor Zhao. Being a doctor himself, he held great respect and admiration for renowned figures in the medical field, and he even wished to meet Doctor Zhao in person.

Shu Yu could see his intentions and said with a smile, "If Doctor Guo ever gets the chance, you're welcome to visit Dong'an Prefecture as my guest. Even if you can't meet Doctor Zhao, I can introduce you to his disciples."

Old Doctor Zhao's disciples included her brother-in-law and sister, so she had some connections.

With Shu Yu's offer, Doctor Guo had no reason to be dissatisfied. He immediately nodded and thanked her, "Thank you, Miss Lu."

Shu Yu chatted a bit more with Doctor Guo, mainly about Grandma Fang's health. Apart from her bodily chilliness, Grandma Fang had previously overexerted herself and didn't have any major ailments, but she suffered from recurring minor issues.

Having gathered enough information, Shu Yu thanked Doctor Guo.

The festive atmosphere of the Fang family's recognition event continued until evening when Shu Yu finally left.

Grandma Fang packed the fish, meat, rice, and noodles she received from guests into a basket as reciprocal gifts for the Guan family.

The Guan couple hadn't expected to receive gifts more valuable than what they had given. Their gift consisted of just some eggs and brown sugar, the eggs being from their own farm and the sugar being a precious commodity in their household.

As they looked at the basket full of fish, meat, rice, and noodles, the Guan couple exchanged glances. They knew that most of the items in this basket were taken from the gifts Shu Yu had brought. Others in the village didn't have something as valuable to give.

As for Shu Yu, she wasn't concerned about any kind of reciprocation; she had no shortage of anything. Besides, during this cold winter, there were no fresh fruits or vegetables available.

After much thought, Grandma Fang realized that Shu Yu enjoyed her homemade pickled vegetables. So, she gave her two jars of it.

Once everything was loaded onto the carriage, Grandma Fang let them leave...

After that day, Shu Yu once again became busy, and Yuan Gui resumed his duties at the county office the next day.

More and more people were moving in and out of the county, and gradually, it regained its bustling atmosphere from before.

With the New Year approaching, many people were coming to the county and leaving with supplies. The roads were once again busy with ox carts and mule carts conducting trade.

Grandma Fang occasionally took a mule cart to the town to visit Shu Yu and Yuan Gui. Sometimes she stayed for a day or two, and other times she returned home on the same day.

Time flew by, but Meng Yunzheng hadn't returned.

The matters in the city turned out to be more complicated than Shu Yu had imagined. Just as she contemplated whether she should visit the city, on the fifth day of the twelfth month, Meng Yunzheng finally returned for a short visit.

He had visibly lost weight, and his formerly handsome appearance now seemed quite disheveled. His clothes were torn, and he didn't seem to care. He even had frostbite on several fingers.

Seeing this, Shu Yu frowned and applied ointment to his frostbitten fingers while asking, "Do you still have to go back to the city? Is it that troublesome?"

Meng Yunzheng sighed, exhaustion evident on his face. "Matters there are still unresolved. I managed to come over for a short visit to see you all. At the same time, I have a few pieces of news related to the events in the city to share with you."
