Chapter 1736: Capturing Inspector Hong

Inspector Hong didn't waste any time and led his men into the Meng Family Escort Bureau. Shu Yu discreetly gestured as soon as everyone was inside, and as they closed the door, she activated the plan.

Inspector Hong and his men were already inside when Shu Yu heard them and ran ahead, guiding them. "They're inside, in the direction of the sounds of a struggle."

Inspector Hong had indeed heard the sounds of a scuffle and ran faster in that direction.

As they reached the backyard, they indeed saw several people engaged in a fight. There were two wearing bandit attire, while there were four or five from the Meng Family Escort Bureau side. The battle was clearly one-sided.

He immediately shouted, "Stop! You dare to barge into someone's home in broad daylight. General Huang is outside the city; you're just waiting to be captured."

After his words, he led his men to join the fray.

Originally, their intention was to help the bandits escape from the Meng Family Escort Bureau by taking advantage of the chaos. Little did they know that just as they started moving forward, the bandits suddenly turned around and attacked them.

Inspector Hong was taken aback, and before he could react, someone pinned his arms down.

Turning his head, he realized that one of the bandits in disguise was actually Meng Yunzheng.

Inspector Hong was shocked. "You..."

Meng Yunzheng smiled at him. "Inspector Hong, you've been quite swift in capturing the bandits today."

"Young Master Meng, what do you mean? Why are you arresting me? I'm an official."

"I'm arresting people like you."

As he spoke, the other inspectors behind Inspector Hong were also subdued.

Shu Yu and Meng Han tossed a few thick ropes in front of them. With the assistance of Meng Yunzheng, Gao Shu, and the other escorts, they quickly bound the captured officials.

Inspector Hong couldn't believe it. "Are you rebelling? Do you know the charges for ambushing officials? Are you all so reckless as to stake your lives?"

His aggressive demeanor caused a slight tension among the escorts.

Seeing this, Shu Yu squatted down, looking at Inspector Hong with a smile. "Let's not beat around the bush. We all know who's rebelling here. Inspector Hong, you're the one who's bold. You're risking the lives of your entire family and taking such a huge risk to help the County Magistrate to collaborate with rebels. Your audacity is astounding!"

"How do you know?" Inspector Hong gasped in disbelief, staring at her, then turning his gaze to the others—Meng Yunzheng and the escorts—all of whom looked at him expressionlessly.

Panicking, he hurriedly denied, "You, you're just talking nonsense. What are these baseless accusations? Not only did you ambush officials, but now you're also slandering County Magistrate Cheng. Do you know the charges for defaming imperial officials?"

Shu Yu let out a light scoff and took a tattered cloth from Ying Xi before stuffing it into Inspector Hong's mouth. "Save your breath. These clever arguments, you can present them to General Huang once he's quelled the rebellion."

Inspector Hong's eyes widened. What did she mean? What was she saying? Did General Huang know about this?

He struggled desperately, but whether it was his limbs or his mouth, he couldn't move. He could only fume in impotent rage.

Meng Yunzheng had his men take Inspector Hong and the others inside the building. To be safe, they rendered them unconscious and locked them up.

The guards were people like Gao Shu who stayed behind to watch over them.

As the sky gradually darkened outside, Meng Yunzheng squinted his eyes as he gazed into the distance. "I wonder how things are going for Master Yang and the others."
