Meng Xiaoshu was still unconscious, so Meng Yunzheng gave him another pill.

He didn't have many of those pills left; he had diluted the poison he fed to the rebels, otherwise there wouldn't have been enough to go around. He had also allocated a portion of the remaining medicine for the injured people in the cell.

Thankfully, they would be returning soon, and Meng Yunzheng had stored some medicine with Xia Yan.

Meng Xiaoshu was placed on a cart. It was one of the carts used to transport food to the ferocious beasts, though there weren't many carts available. Meng Xiaoshu lay on it, along with the cousin of Second Young Master He, and other injured individuals who couldn't walk easily.

Originally, Meng Yunzheng had considered whether to bring Tao Feili's body back, but he eventually decided against it. With their current tasks at hand, there was little they could do with the body. If they brought it back, it would either have to be returned to the Tao family or the Meng family. Regardless, finding a suitable place for it would be problematic, so it was better to leave it behind in the Black Market.

Aside from that, the other carts were loaded with weapons.

Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu both carried bows and arrows, and they had swords hanging from their waists. They took as much as they could.

They were moving slowly; the secret passage was narrow, and carrying heavy loads made quick progress impossible.

When they reached a fork in the path, Xia Yi, who was leading the way, stopped.

She nodded at Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu, saying, "Let's split up here."

Xia Yi was headed towards the private residence of the county magistrate. One direction led to an abandoned mansion, which wasn't much of a problem, but they needed to block off access to the magistrate's residence. She also wanted to investigate what was inside the private residence, and whether the county magistrate was living there.

If he was present, Xia Yi intended to capture him.

Meng Yunzheng told her to be careful, and Xia Yi led Lu Wu's group in the opposite direction.

Meng Yunzheng's group continued quietly forward.

After some effort, they finally reached the end of the passage, letting out a collective sigh of relief.

Qin Kun stepped forward and pressed the mechanism that led to the exit. He was the first to ascend. Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu followed closely behind. The others stayed where they were for the moment, waiting until they were sure it was safe before emerging.

Outside, the sky was still dim. Meng Yunzheng's group had left the Meng residence in the early morning, spending nearly a day and a night in the Black Market.

Now, it was almost dawn, with about half an hour until sunrise due to the winter season.

Meng Yunzheng emerged and listened for any sounds, then turned to pull Shu Yu out.

As the others prepared to follow them outside, Meng Yunzheng suddenly pricked up his ears and turned his head abruptly. "Who's there?"

The people at the back, including Master Yang, were startled and froze in place.

Narrowing his eyes, Meng Yunzheng focused on the entrance. Shu Yu also raised her wrist, readying herself for anything. Everyone's expressions were tense.

In the next moment, a familiar voice with a lowered tone sounded, "Brother?"

Meng Yunzheng was momentarily stunned, then he lowered Shu Yu's raised wrist. "It's Meng Qi."

Shu Yu let out a breath, reassuring the people behind her with a gesture of her hand.

True to his words, Meng Qi appeared from beneath the window outside. Seeing them in the room, he joyfully climbed in through the window, suppressed his excitement, and ran over to Meng Yunzheng, "Brother, it's really you. You've finally returned."

He let out a long sigh, his face still bearing the lingering shock of the previous experience. "How's everything? Did it all go smoothly?"

Meng Yunzheng made a sound of agreement, "Everything went smoothly. What about you? How did you end up here? And what about Yuan Gui? Did you take him back?"
