Chapter 1606: Encountering the Scene

Unlike the village head of Ruan Village, who would often act recklessly and show favoritism, leading to their village becoming a laughingstock for miles around, Fan Zhong was more level-headed.

Da Zhuang patiently explained to Fan Zhong, "Village head, today is Lan Hua's wedding day. If something bad happens and it gets blown out of proportion, it won't be good for the Lu family. Besides, we're not sure if the person who entered the sunflower field is from our village. We can't let our dirty laundry be aired, or else we'll become a laughingstock."

Fan Zhong considered and found the point valid. If the person sneaking into the sunflower field turned out to be from Shishi Village, it would be embarrassing for him as the village head.

He glanced at the County folks who were discussing the sunflowers, led by Da Niu and Da Zhuang; it seemed alright.

He then called his youngest son over and quietly gave him some instructions.

Before long, Fan Zhongzheng came back with a few familiar villagers.

With a stern face, Fan Zhong and his group left the main crowd and followed Da Zhuang, walking towards the other side of the sunflower field.

These sunflowers were destined for Lu Xiangjun, and today, Fan Zhong planned to discuss planting a few acres of sunflowers on his estate as well. He absolutely couldn't allow any destruction.

Liang Shi's eyes were sharp, and she noticed them leaving, so she followed them.

Having seen sunflowers so many times, she didn't find it particularly fascinating. But observing the village head looking like he was going to settle some scores, she couldn't help but smell some gossip.

It was a pity her husband wasn't around, and he still had to work half of the day. Otherwise, they could go watch the commotion together.

The group arrived at the other side of the field. Thankfully, the tall and dense sunflowers covered any sight of people.

The sunflower field chosen by Xu Cai and Ge Qifei was rather secluded; after all, it was a secret rendezvous, and the fewer people passing by, the better.

They wouldn't have come here if they didn't want to talk privately.

Da Zhuang stopped and pointed to his own part of the field. "It's here. I saw a figure flash by and enter."

Fan Zhong chuckled, "Da Zhuang, this is your land. No wonder you're so concerned. You want us to help you catch a thief?"

Da Zhuang looked embarrassed, "I'm just afraid someone might destroy our land. With more people, I have more confidence. Thank you all today, and if we catch the thief, I'll treat you to a meal."

"Don't mention it. But if we all go in, and the crowd causes any damage, your losses will be even greater."

"No problem, we'll just have two or three people go in while the others wait outside."

Their plan was simple: if any disturbance arose, those two inside would naturally rush out. This way, they would catch them red-handed.

While Da Zhuang was thinking this way, Shu Yu inside the sunflower field acted even faster.

When she saw Da Zhuang bringing people over, she immediately snuck back into the field. As soon as she heard the conversation outside, she created some noise to let Xu Cai and Ge Qifei hear.

Ge Qifei had keen ears, so he quickly held Xu Cai back. "Someone's coming."

Xu Cai's expression changed; she wouldn't dare to act out at this moment. When they heard footsteps from outside, they hurriedly tried to leave the sunflower field.

However, as soon as they lifted their heads, they were met with the astonished gazes of seven or eight people.
