Chapter 927: I'll Help You Find People

Shu Yu turned her head to face the crowd and smiled. "Ideally, it would be best to find enough people from the village. However, my father said that it's currently the busy farming season, and he has to consider everyone. We can't let the uncles and older brothers neglect their work in the fields to help us."

The crowd suddenly snapped out of their thoughts. Yes, June and July were the busiest months for farming. How could they spare any time?

Some households had already started weeding and tilling their fields. Otherwise, with all the commotion surrounding the Lu family, it wouldn't be just a few people watching. There would probably be a crowd gathered inside and outside the village.

The disappointment on the faces of the villagers was evident. After all, the most important thing for farming households was their land. Only if the crops were grown well would they have a good harvest, right?

Shu Yu continued, "So my father gave me a list of people, all uncles who have enough labor and can spare some time. I came back to the village to inquire who among them is available to lend a hand to my father."

"What kind of list is it?" Fan Zhongzheng asked curiously.

Shu Yu handed the paper to the village chief. Fan Zhong could read, and the first name he saw was his son's name.

Feeling satisfied, Fan Zhong continued reading and saw the names of other people below. They were indeed families with strong labor but limited farmland, and the people were hardworking.

However, the names at the top were families with a good relationship with Lu Erbai.

Seeing the list, Fan Zhongzheng became even more delighted. Now that the Lu family had become prosperous, they still remembered the villagers and didn't forget to extend a helping hand when there was suitable work. This was a good thing.

Fan Zhongzheng said to Shu Yu, "Village Leader Lu, give me this list. I'll send someone to call them over. You've come all the way here, why not rest inside and have some tea?"

"That would be troublesome, Village Chief."

Fan Zhongzheng chuckled. "It's no trouble at all."

He turned to instruct his son, who had come with him, to go and fetch the people. Lu Erbai was worried that Shu Yu wouldn't recognize them, but Fan Zhongzheng wasn't concerned. After a brief conversation, Fan Zhongzheng youngest son understood, turned, and ran off.

With that, Shu Yu turned and followed Li Shi into the courtyard.

The other villagers exchanged glances. When they regained their senses and wanted to ask if there were any other tasks they could help with, Fan Zhongzheng had already entered the Lu family's courtyard, and the gate had closed.

However, nobody noticed that Ying Xi had disappeared from Shu Yu's side.

As soon as Shu Yu entered, Li Shi promptly poured her a glass of water.

Shu Yu took a quick glance around. Other than Li Shi, it seemed that no one else was at home.

Shu Yu asked, "Where is Uncle and the others?"

"Oh, your uncle went to work in the fields. Niuniu went with him to weed and hoe. Lan Hua went to Cui Hua's house in the town. That brat from the Geng family came yesterday, so I told Lan Hua to avoid him for now and not cause any trouble."

Upon hearing that Geng Qi Fei had come yesterday, Shu Yu frowned. "Aunt Li, if he comes again, find a way to drive him away. He's been pretending to be pitiful here. If it continues for too long, the rumors will change direction."

Li Shi didn't agree. "How can they change direction? It was their fault to begin with. Won't others blame us?"

"It's possible. Just now, I heard someone sympathizing with Geng Qi Fei. He's clearly trying to portray himself as a lovesick character. If Lan Hua keeps avoiding him, people might think she's heartless and ungrateful."

Li Shi's expression changed slightly. "That can't be true..."
