Chapter 633: I Want to Apologize to You

Hou Shi looked at Shu Yu with a slightly complex expression. When she learned yesterday that Aunt Xue had been beaten and bagged, she was the first to suspect Shu Yu.

However, upon further thought, it didn't make sense. Whenever Shu Yu fought with the Shu family, she did it openly in front of everyone. It was no secret that she had been abused by Aunt Xue since she was young. The enmity between them was deep, so why would they need to bag her?

Besides, Aunt Xue had more enemies than just Shu Yu. When they worked in the wasteland, she had offended the prisoners in her team who criticized her for being slow and incompetent, causing trouble for them. They had even exchanged a few heated words.

And just a few days ago, Aunt Xue had a heated confrontation with another woman on the street, almost coming to blows.

Although they had only recently arrived in Zhengdao Village, Aunt Xue had already made quite a few enemies.

Not to mention the Shu family members. While it was unlikely that they were responsible, it wasn't entirely impossible, right?

Seeing Shu Yu's bewildered expression, Hou Shi became even more certain that it wasn't her.

She cleared her throat and quietly explained, "Last night, when Aunt Xue went out to gather firewood, someone bagged and beat her. On her way back, the Shu family accidentally dropped her while carrying her, and her hand got fractured. So, as fellow patients, the Shu family decided to let her stay in the firewood room with Second Miss."

During the daytime, Aunt Xue had fallen asleep without eating anything after being beaten. Besides sleeping, she had nothing else to do. Later, when she woke up, she got up to use the outhouse. On her way back, she passed by Second Miss's wooden bed and saw her staring wide-eyed with an eerie expression.

Aunt Xue called out to her, only to realize that she had passed away.

Shu Yu "..."

What? She was bagged and beaten? Her hand was fractured?

Shu Yu felt at a loss for words. "Who could have such a strong grudge against her that they would bag and beat her? Last night..."

She stopped halfway through her sentence, as if she had suddenly realized something. Her eyes narrowed slightly, and her voice abruptly trailed off.

Hou Shi asked curiously, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Shu Yu snapped out of her thoughts and glanced at Aunt Xue in the firewood room.

Aunt Xue, who couldn't work anymore, was clearly receiving the same treatment as Second Miss.

Living in the firewood room and only eating half a bun. But she had one advantage over Second Miss—her injuries could heal as long as she rested.

Just as she was thinking about it, Aunt Xue's gaze of hatred turned towards her, as if she wanted to devour her.

Shu Yu scoffed and turned to Hou Shi. "Well, I should go back now. You should have dinner first."

In fact, they didn't need to eat. Hou Shi and Sixth Miss had just been to the Lu family and had two buns. It was already enough. Even if it wasn't enough, with a death in the family, it was understandable that they might lose their appetite.

After Shu Yu finished speaking, she turned and walked away.

Sixth Miss hesitated for a moment and hurriedly said to Hou Shi, "I... I'll go and see her off."

Hou Shi was puzzled as she watched her daughter's departing figure. What was she doing, seeing her off?

Sixth Miss quickly caught up to Shu Yu and left the courtyard with her.

After walking a few steps, Shu Yu stopped and turned to her, questioning, "Did you have something to say to me?"

Sixth Miss swallowed nervously and nodded slightly. "I want to apologize to you."

"What are you apologizing for?"
