Chapter 612: Zhao Xi is Absent

Fang Xiyue didn't act like a member of the Shu family at all. Without inquiring about it, she found a mediocre doctor to come and treat her father's illness.

They knew that the doctor exiled to Zhengdao Village didn't have much skill, so they didn't dare to let him randomly treat Fang Xiyue's father.

Fang Xiyue and her mother had discussed it before, deciding to save even more on their daily meals. Once master Lan stopped scrutinizing their family so much, they planned to find another doctor elsewhere to treat Fang Xiyue's father.

However, before they could take action, Shu Yu told her that her family had a skilled doctor. Fang Xiyue couldn't contain her joy.

She opened her mouth and said with a mix of embarrassment and urgency, "Can he check on my father right now?"

"Now?" Shu Yu was taken aback for a moment. "I don't have a problem with it, but I don't know if he's at home. I need to go back and check before giving you an answer."

"Alright, then I'll accompany you back."

Shu Yu had no objections, and the two of them headed towards the Lu family first. When they passed by Fang Xiyue's house, Fang Xiyue didn't go inside.

Unfortunately, Zhao Xi wasn't at home.

He had gone to the county town, and it hadn't been long since he left. He had gone to the mountains in the morning to collect herbs and left in a cart in the afternoon. Yesterday, he had sent a letter home and took the opportunity to purchase some things in the county town.

Fang Xiyue felt disappointed upon hearing this, but there was nothing she could do. Since he wasn't there, she could only wait again.

After learning about Fang Xiyue's situation, the old lady comforted her, "Don't worry, Da Niu will definitely be back by evening. I'll talk to him once he returns, and then I'll go to your house to check on your father."

Fang Xiyue nodded. "Thank you, Grandma Lu."

Since Zhao Xi wasn't home, Shu Yu planned to go for a walk at the foot of the mountain and gather some mushrooms and wild vegetables.

She handed the wild chickens to Grandma Lu and said, "Grandma, let's stew these two wild chickens. They're already dead anyway, so they won't last long."

Grandma Lu examined the wild chickens, looking left and right. They were quite plump.

"Alright, let's have them for dinner tonight. You can have the big chicken leg," she said.

Shu Yu chuckled and took two baskets—one for herself and one handed to Fang Xiyue. "Grandma, we're leaving now."

"Be careful." Grandma Lu watched them leave and muttered to herself, "Really, since they finished their work so early, they could just rest at home. But no, they still have to go out and do things. Aren't they afraid of getting tired?"

Shu Yu listened to the voice behind her, smiled, and walked with Fang Xiyue towards the foot of the mountain.

They had previously observed and knew where the mushrooms and wild vegetables grew abundantly, so they headed straight for their destination once they reached the foot of the mountain.

They worked quickly and soon filled a basket.

Since it was still early, Shu Yu planned to send this basket home first. There were plenty of wild mushrooms and wood ear mushrooms in this area, but they weighed heavily, so it was quite burdensome.

Since both types could be dried and eaten slowly, they weren't afraid of picking too many and wasting them.

Fang Xiyue had the same thought, so they immediately decided to make a quick trip back home.

The wild chicken Fang Xiyue had brought was still at Shu Yu's house, so they took it back to her home first.

In Fang Xiyue's house, only her father was present as her mother had gone to work on the barren land.

Now that Fang Xiyue had returned, she wanted to see her father and give him some water to drink.

However, as soon as she entered the room, she saw her father lying on the ground, struggling to crawl out.

Fang Xiyue was shocked and quickly put down the basket and chicken on her shoulder. She hurriedly ran forward and asked, "Father, did you fall off the bed? Are you alright? Are you injured?"
