Chapter 609: Shooting the Roe Deer

Shu Yu didn't lie. Her grandmother knew that she couldn't deliver food to her at noon, and she also thought that going up the mountain would be more tiring. Therefore, she prepared a lot of food for her.

Although Shu Yu had a good appetite, it wasn't big enough to eat three rice balls and an egg.

The old lady really overestimated her. Shu Yu didn't look like someone with a big appetite.

Shu Yu really couldn't eat it all. She wasn't so hungry that she would starve herself and give the food to someone else.

Fang Xiyue was still a good person. She had put in a lot of effort in the morning and couldn't be satisfied with just one steamed bun.

Shu Yu extended the rice ball towards her again and said, "Take it. Once you're full, you'll have the energy to help me find more prey together in the afternoon. If we catch more game, maybe we can even bring back a wild chicken to improve our food. It's a mutually beneficial thing, isn't it?"

When Fang Xiyue heard that she could bring back a wild chicken, she was greatly tempted. Her father was still bedridden with serious injuries and needed better food.

Therefore, despite feeling embarrassed, Fang Xiyue thanked Shu Yu and took the rice ball.

The rice ball was fragrant, and the filling was generous. The shredded meat, pickled vegetables, and oil made Fang Xiyue almost want to cry.

Fortunately, this rice ball was free to eat.

After resting for a while, the two of them set off again. Fang Xiyue was full and energized.

Then she spotted the tracks of a roe deer.

Excitedly, she looked down at the traces on the ground and said, "It's in that direction."

Shu Yu raised her head and looked at the dense forest ahead. After a moment's hesitation, she took out a bottle from her bag.

"Entering further might be dangerous. Let's apply this on ourselves first to repel snakes, insects, rodents, and ants."

If they were just walking around the outskirts, there was no need to waste this. But once they entered the deep mountains, it was necessary to take precautions.

Fang Xiyue looked at the item in Shu Yu's hand in surprise. She was the daughter of a hunter, and her father occasionally carried insect repellent on him, so she naturally knew its purpose.

However, they were exiled here without any conditions, so Fang Xiyue had been walking cautiously.

She didn't expect Shu Yu to have it.

Shu Yu said, "Since it's our first time going into the mountains, and we're not familiar with it yet, let's not go too deep for now. If the roe deer is too far inside, let's give up. Besides, we already have enough game in our hands today."

Fang Xiyue nodded, "Okay."

The two of them applied the powder on themselves and cautiously moved deeper into the forest.

Sure enough, it didn't take long before they spotted the roe deer.

Shu Yu swiftly drew her bow. The roe deer was highly alert and leaped up as soon as it sensed their movement, its fur standing on end.

Just as it was about to escape, Shu Yu released the arrow.

"Whoosh!" The arrow flew through the air, and the roe deer fell to the ground with a thud.

Fang Xiyue exclaimed, "You hit it! Ah Yu, you're amazing."

She quickly ran forward, fortunately, they had brought plenty of hemp ropes today, and Fang Xiyue quickly tied up the roe deer.

Shu Yu followed closely behind and looked around. She said to Fang Xiyue, "Let's carry the prey out first before deciding what to do."

Fang Xiyue nodded, and the two of them quickly carried the roe deer, along with the wild chickens and hares they had previously caught, out of the deep mountains.

Luckily, they both had the strength; otherwise, they wouldn't have been able to carry the roe deer.

They stopped only when they reached the outskirts of the mountain, placing their items on the ground and taking a few breaths.

"Ah Yu, should we continue hunting?" Fang Xiyue asked.

It was still early, only midday.
