j-hope isn't just the best singer in the rap line, he's credited in the vocal gang in like 75% of BTS' songs--including vocal line solos like Filter. I think he probably has the second or third best pitch accuracy (after Jungkook and maybe Jin) and he's got a really controlled falsetto and vibrato. He has a really strong foundation and a great ear. I think his tone is a little non-traditional so that's why rap was a better fit than being one of the vocalists. It's got a ton of character to it so I think it would be great for theatre but probably less accessible for pop or r&b. But with rap, we get to see how his interesting tone and his range enhances his delivery. He's so versatile and has such a big bag of tricks. You listen to Blue Side or Hangsang and you could easily think you've got 4 different artists on each track--but it's all just j-hope. In Mama he gives you rap, melodic rap, falsetto, and belts--that range is so unique to him. To this day you still have people who think Jungkook is doing the vocals in Boy Meets Evil (it's Hobi. He's done it live, JK is nowhere in the credits, it's obviously Hobi--but it surprises people that the same person doing that incredibly rap is also doing those beautiful vocals). I think his versatility and his strength in both rap and vocals, and the variety of things he can do with his voice, make him an artist that is capable of surprising and challenging fans while also making him so distinct and recognizable. He's 1 of 1 and we're really lucky he's on our team. I mean, imagine someone trying to cover any of his music. Impossible.
