- Moon Jae In - Jae is pronounced "jeh" - short history of Korea - documented history dating back thousands of years, tons of in-fighting, and being invaded by vast outside forces, from both China and Japan - Korea is one of the few nations that never actually invaded foreign soil in the goal of conquest, so that is, in part, why there is such a deep-rooted anger in the Korean identity, as Korea has been invaded throughout history by other nations - North and South Korea is a result of outside forces once again - the US in the south, Russia in the north, all in the midst of a pissing contest between the two during the cold war - Russia and China kept the north, and appointed the Kims as leaders of the region, while the US held south went the route of democracy - at one point, North Korea invaded South Korea, all in the name of unification, thinking the evils of the Americans needed to be driven out of the nation to make it whole - the South ALSO wants unification, but under democracy, and WITHOUT the influence of Russia, China, OR the Kim family - there was a cease fire called in the 50s, at which point, South Korea was a bombed out shell, war torn, and the people living in extreme poverty - a third world nation - however, with the birth of Korean conglomerates in the 60s and 70s (like Samsung) run by powerful and rich families, South Korea clawed its way out of the dirt, quickly experiencing a boom in economy and industry, and creating exponential growth, hurdling it to where it is now, one of the richest first world nations, with a technological infrastructure that is one of the best in the world, as well as the quickest and most convenient internet and wifi access on the planet - everything isn't perfect, of course - the adults remember the days of struggle, the kids have the stress of having to live up to their parents' expectations and desire NEVER to return to those days of hunger and struggle - Korean society seems superficial and obsessed with beauty and fashion due to the need to constantly remind the world and the nation that Korea is NOT what is once was, and if that means harsh education to make everyone smart, plastic surgery to make everyone beautiful, or expensive cars, clothes, shoes, and bags, to show the world that success and prosperity, then that is what is desired and prioritized - and all this, with the capital city of Seoul, the center for economy and commerce for Korea, just a little over an hour's drive from the DMZ (de-militarized zone), where lies North Korea, and constant possibility of violence - armistice is merely a cease fire, and not an end to war - which is why there exists mandatory military service for every male, because Korea is still technically "at war"

Dream

As Korean, do I think my country will reunite like Germany in the future? - Yes / Do I think that my generation will make it happen? - hmm,,well... / What about with BTS? - YES

That is my hope as well. My entire family still lives in South Korea, my great grandmother (who passed away a decade or so ago in her 110s) still had memories of a united Korea. My grandmother remembers the war, my mother remembers the aftermath and poverty. I hate that the nation is divided, and hope one day it becomes one. But, at the same time, the sheer economic burden it would create for South Korea, just mind boggling, and something that could break its financial stability, if they tried to take on the burdens of North Korea all at once. I hope people far smarter than I could figure it out, both how to bring about unification, but to do it in a way that WON'T destroy South Korea in the process.
