I have huge respect for Bang PD (Bang Shihyuk). I'd say he and Namjoon are really at the core of BTS' success. Bang recognized Joon's talent for rap and composing at an early age, and basically formed BTS around this young ambitious rapper. Bang was originally a producer and even now as the CEO of one of the biggest entertainment companies in South Korea, he is very much involved in the music production for BTS and other Big Hit acts. As a businessman, I think Bang pioneered many practices in the kpop industry, including: prioritizing idols' mental health, engaging fans with multilayered story lines, promoting artists' independence and advocating the idea that artists should write songs that reflect their experiences and struggles. This might seem like very basic things by western standards but prior to BTS, idols generally did not have such autonomy, but you see those positive paradigm shift taking hold in the newer kpop groups that are coming out nowadays.
