Emily's sprites! (Patreon)
Content
Hi! This time I bring you the behind the scenes of this whole sprite thing. It's taking longer than I expected, but I hope it will result in a smoother development with fewer headaches in the future. I also hope it is noticeable that they are better drawn and that it is not in vain all this work, I felt that the sprites looked very outdated next to the new art in the previous update.
I was already doing something similar with the old sprites, but I used to "cook" them in ClipStudio and then export the expressions I needed to the game, this took time and was a bit annoying in case I wanted to change the expression for a scene. Now I can build the sprites in the game itself, making the whole process easier. This wasn't difficult on the programming side, I'm just an idiot for these things). This method opens up the possibility of making the characters blink and talk.
I was actually preparing the sprites for the eventual integration of live2D into renpy, that's why Laura is looking at the source, because that way it's easier to animate, I planned to make all the characters like that... but it would look very stiff, and there's no guarantee that I can implement live2d immediately. It's better to focus on the technology I have at hand and that's it for now.
About the update in general...
Initially I planned to focus on the sprites and update the art, but I really want to add more scenes and advance the story, otherwise it would be a boring update.
As things go, there is going to be a scene from Rea in which the " encounter system" is introduced, a scene with Laura, and as she is already winning in the polls, a scene with Lena. There will be two scenes from Lena actually, since the last time she ended up on divergent paths, and I also plan to add a very small scene for Emi to start building the repeatable events.
As for the sprites, I have to do them all (maybe I can skip Mrs. Luna for now), and the encounter sprites for Laura, Rea and Lena. I'd like to update the rest of the art/animations and bring everything to fullHD, but that takes time, so it's not a priority for now... maybe I'll put it to a vote later, but first I have to address this sprite thing.
And that's all for now, Bye!
